Xbox One Wireless Controller Joystick Drifts Upward

Hello all. I'm afraid the answer to this may ultimately be to replace a $60 controller (sad panda), but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to deal with a controller that drifts in the upward direction despite my not touching it at all. I've
run a controller firmware update already, but this hasn't resolved the issue.

Hi Snip3R, thanks for the quick response. This is a weird one, for sure.

I actually don't use a play and charge setup, just rechargeable double AAs, and use the USB cable only for controller firmware updates. I've had my One for a couple years now, and never had a problem with my controller or the firmware updates until August.

I read somewhere on reddit to download the Controller Tester app from the Xbox store. When I tested my original XB1 controller using it, after about a 10 second delay, you could see the right stick drift upward slightly to the 40 mark or so and stop. Correcting
it does the same thing, slight delay, and then upward drift to the 40 mark. From this, it doesn't appear to be the joystick mechanism itself causing the drift, but the firmware or console firmware, perhaps. And even further, maybe for only certain model
controllers, like mine.

 

If you have the controller updated and are still experiencing the stick drift. There is no known fix for the issue except repair or replacement. If it is out of warranty then the best solution is replacement.
