Xbox One wireless controller claims it is "plugged in" when running on batteries

Issue with an Xbox One wireless controller.

Controller will perform wireless sync to the system without issue. Once it is on and synced I go to check the battery level in the menus and it says it is "plugged in". After a few minutes my controller will power off. This happens consistently.

The batteries in the controller are fresh. I have tested the batteries in an alternative controller and they work great.

The controller in question is updated to the latest firmware.

The controller works without issue when actually plugged in with a USB cable. When the cable is plugged in it shows the status as "plugged in" and the status remains the same even when the cable is removed and batteries inserted.

The issue is not with the console as I've tested it on 2 different xbox one consoles and both had the same issue with this specific controller.

I've looked around but can't find any posts about this issue.

    :)

    problems with wireless controllers

My controllers are doing the same thing. They are both wireless controllers. I tried one with new batteries and the other with a battery pack. When it's plugged in with the battery pack it works and even says that it has a full charge. When I disconnect
the cord, it won't reconnect to the XBOX. I don't have anything new (wireless or bluetooth or anything) that would be interfering with the signal - to my knowledge.

    3.5mm Jack shorts out controller

    Hi there,

As described, yes I have had this occur and it was due to the headphones that I was using, where the cable wasn't snugly plugged in. Consider that when plugging in a 3.5m headset, the controller is pulling a lot more power.

    Two things I would check:

    1. Make sure you are using the correct batteries (all AA batteries do not operate with the same frequency)

    2. Make sure your cord is not damaged and plugged in all the way so that it does not spin or tilt when you move

Xbox Slim Will Not Charge Controller

I had this problem before when my controller was dead I would plug it in and the green light would come on telling me the controller was charged and would run the controller but when I unpluged it, It would die. The problem was my battery pack was done.
Went out and got a new one and it was fixed. If your xbox is running the controller while its plugged in then your xbox is working fine it's most likely your battery pack.

    Master Chief Halo 5 Controller

    Hey mate,

Are you sure you have the battery plugged in the right way? I know it sounds silly, but I actually made this mistake myself, and it took me a while to figure out that I'd put the wireless battery in the wrong way.

If not, try out the controller with some normal AA batteries, and see if it works then. If it does, it could be an issue with the wireless battery :(

    Cheers
