I don't know if this is the right place to post, but I have a wireless adapter for the xbox one controller for Windows 10 and I just want to know how I can turn the controller off when I'm done with it?

Wireless Xbox one adapter compatibility with windows 7

There are two different Xbox One wireless adapters.
The older, bigger one is able to support Windows 7, 8, and 10.
The newer, smaller one only supports Windows 10.

Hi, I am almost sure it should be the same method as on the console, hold down the home button for 5 sec and then the ability to turn off the controller should appear on screen other than that once the adapter is removed or the PC/Laptop is shut down the
controller should turn itself off after a short period of time.

 

I use my controller for some games that have controller support, most of them do no have an option to power down a controller.

Since I'm used to it, I just slide off the back and dislodge a battery.

Though if you are using rechargeables batteries, you can simply let it go off by its own. ( I know this isn't good idea, but it's something if you are not wanting to fumble with the battery packs.)
