Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows - Works, but not with games?

I'm running Windows 7 and I actually managed to get this adapter to install correctly, finally. The controller syncs fine, the input shows up and even registers in the gamepad input window on Windows, but it will not register in any game I have tried (and
I have tried a lot of games). Basically, everything is working as normal, like a regular controller would, until I launch a game. The game does not detect any input when I use the controller, even if I specifically enter and try to bind it. Anyone else having
this issue?

Yes, I am on windows 10 and using the original model of the Xbox One Windows 10 wireless adapter (the fat one).

Yes, I have done all these steps with the wireless adapter as well, save for swapping it out for another one, which I don't have.

Xbox One Wireless Adapter + GamePad problem

Hello

I have a Xbox One Controller with Windows Wireless Adapter, and i can't connect gamepad with my windows 10 PC.

I have been already tryed to connect with anyother PC but something doesn't work. I don't havethe Xbox ONE, so I can't check that the game pad wireless is working. If i connect Adapter to PC I will see in Device Menager: Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.
If I connect gamepad via USB i will see in Device Menager: Xbox Peripherals --> Xbox Controller.

Reinstalation the driver nothing help...

What games are having the issue? I know some older games weren't programed with the Xbox controllers. Try Fallout 4, I'm currently using playing that with the Xbox One controller without any problems. If not, upgrading to Windows 10 might fix the issue.

I have tried Fallout 4, GTA V, Shovel Knight, DiRT 3, among several others. None of them worked, though I did find that the controller works with console emulators. Just not any other games.

It would be really impractical to upgrade my entire OS just because of the controller, and I really don't want to use Windows 10 anyway, so that's out of the question. The adapter is officially supported for Windows 7 - Windows 10 now anyway, so the upgrade
would be less of a fix and more of a workaround for the issue.

It's the Microsoft adapter:

Observe how the copy says:

With the new and improved Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, you can play your favorite PC games using any Xbox Wireless Controller.

Note that it says any XBox Wireless controller. If it only works for XBox One controllers, that is, at the very least, misleading.

It appears that I will have to avail myself of the "hassle-free returns" policy.

That's where I heard about the "old adaptator"

This is line 1, 2 and 3 of the table :

So seems like there is 2 wireless adaptator and one of them seems to work on windows 7 but they don't precise if it's for xbow one or 360...sigh now you understand why i'm so lost, 3 versions of the controller, 2 different adaptator, many software update...I
know the best is to switch to W10 but I never had a single problem on w7 and would like to keep it as long as possible.

There are two different Xbox One wireless adapters.
The older, bigger one is able to support Windows 7, 8, and 10.
The newer, smaller one only supports Windows 10.

If you could clarify here, how is the Xbox One wireless controller connect to your Windows Laptop? Is an Xbox One wireless adapter in use? If so, please attempt troubleshooting for this such device by following our

The Xbox One Wireless controller with Bluetooth can be connected to a Windows 10 PC with a USB cable, Bluetooth, or with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, so yes, it can be connected via the adapter. The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 is not
compatible with an Xbox 360 controller and will need the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. I'll provide the support articles with this information:
