    Xbox one will read the disc, but won't start


    Recently my xbox would not start games. It does read the game disc and appaers playable, but it wont launch the game. It doesn't even start up. I tried this with every game i got and it still doesn't start. Even with digital games.

    I thouht it was because a lack of memory, but after getting a external hard drive it still wont start up games. I have deleted local saved games wich did not do anything.

    I dont know how to fix it, pls help.

    Problem while playing

    When playing NHL14, during online game the game crash, the green led start blinking, the xbox interface appears and won't read the disc. i eject the disc to put in again but it won't read the disc the most of the time and when finally does the game keep
    crashing again after awhile.

    I tired to play NHL13, but i played for only about 20 minutes and got no problem. Help pls :/

    Xbox one won't read disc

    If it's only one disc then it could be that disc.

    If it's all discs then your disc drive is dead.

    You have 3 otions.Either do nothing & buy all digital,send it for repair which is free if it's still under warranty or buy a new console.

    If it's not under warranty my advice would be to buy a new console.From personal experience if you send it in for repair it will just fail again within a few months.

    A new console isn't much more than the cost of a repair,you'd have a newer console & at least a 1 year warranty.

    Xbox one will read the disc, but won't start

    First try clearing persistent storage.

    To clear this storage cache, follow the below procedure:

    Press the menu key of the controller.

    Go to Settings > Disc & Blu-Ray.

    In the BLU-RAY section select "Persistent Storage".

    Select "Clear persistent storage".

    If that doesn't work then try a hard reset on your console performed EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug
    the power cord back in and restart the console. Once it is back up and operational test the results.

    Hey AngryPegasus241,

    Since you mentioned it's occurring with any game, I suggest
    Factory Restoring your Xbox One console. Be sure to select 'Keep my games & apps' to avoid reinstalling your games.

    Hi,

    It's not the discs it's your console. If your console can not read DVD movies then it won't read Xbox 360 games either. DVD movie discs use the same type of discs that 360 games use (DVD-9).

    The Xbox One has two lasers to read discs. One for Blu-rays - which Xbox One discs games are made of - and one for reading DVD's and Xbox 360 games.

    Anyone else gone through 2+ 360's?

    15 premium consoles,2 Elite consoles & my 360s is starting to play up now. Mostly disc drive problems & just had to send my Xbox One in as the disc drive on that won't read any games.

    Hi,

    Can you confirm if your console can read DVD discs?

    Xbox 360 games are on DVD and Xbox One games are on Blu-Ray. The Xbox One's Blu-ray drive has a separate laser to read DVD's, if it has malfunctioned, Xbox 360 games can't be read and the digital download for BC games won't start.

    To test this out, try playing a DVD movie disc. In all likelihood these films won't play and that will confirm drive malfunction. If this is the case you'll need your console repaired/replaced.

    Do other BC Xbox 360 game discs work on your Xbox One? For the Xbox One to recognise the game and download it from Live it must:

    • Be able to read the disc. Check if the disc is dirty or damaged
    • Have a working Optical drive capable of reading Xbox 360 discs. Try other BC discs or test a DVD movie.

    The Xbox One has two diodes for reading discs in the optical Blu-ray Drive. A red laser is used to read Xbox 360 and DVD movies and a blue laser to read Xbox One games and Blu-ray movies. If the diode for reading DVD's is faulty, BC Xbox 360 discs won't
    work.

    Hi,

    it won't be a software problem. The reason is because the Xbox One's Blu-Ray drive actually has two laser diodes, one for reading Blu-Ray Xbox One discs and movies and another to read Xbox 360 and DVD movie discs.

    Essentially the laser that reads BD discs has failed and it's not something you can repair yourself.

    Sorry about that.
