Xbox One Will Not Play Region A

Hello,

I have been involved in chat and phone sessions with customer service for hours this week. None of the sessions have reached a reasonable conclusion to me, so I thought I would give one last try here.

I bought a refurbished unit directly from Microsoft. It will not play Blurays from Region A. It will play a Bluray that is ABC.

I have two guesses as to what is wrong. One, there is some setting that is incorrect. Two, which seems more likely to me, is that they sold me a refurb unit from another country and did not change the region code.

These are the choices they have given me: One, send it in and maybe get a different one in a month or so. Two, they will ship me a different one, BUT they want to put a 400 dollar hold on my account.

Both of these options seem ridiculous to me. They sent me a product that is not fully functional and my choices are going without for a month, or letting them hold some of my money. I don’t want them having anything to do with my money after this experience.

So any suggestions? Any way to get them to send me a unit that works where I’m not put out in some way?

Xbox One from the US (Region free? Advantages? Disadvantages?)

The Xbox one is region free for games.

But for DVD's and Blu-rays, it is region locked. So your Xbox from the states would only be able to play region 1 discs

Just to summarize. The answer is no, it does not play movies of any region. The Xbox One is region locked so it'll only play movies for the region it was purchased from.

 

Thought I would check in again and see if anyone had suggestions.

I do have an update as well. I reviewed this purchase on the Microsoft store regarding how it won't play DVDs. Apparently the review area is moderated and my review was removed. This entire customer service experience has been bewildering. I have never
seen anything like it.

 

I would assume that you just need to change the region on your console. Which is quite simple to do on the Xbox One.

You would think it would be that simple, but it is not. I have changed that. It appears that the region code is hardwired into some consoles?

Anyways, after hours and hours of chats and phone calls, I finally just did the advanced replacement where they charge you the 400 dollars until they get the console back. I give up. They win.
