XBOX One will not allow me to create my own gamertag

The process returning you to pre-made gamertags usually represents the tag you chose is already in use so returns to suggesting you other options.

Put in something totally random and see if it proceeds to the next step. If it does, select GO BACK and try a name more suited to what you want to use.

But the gamertag that I want to change is my old gamertag. I change my old gamertag on 2 August 2020. I used that old gamertag when I create my Xbox account. At that time, the system allow me to use that gamertag. But when I want to change it back, the system don't allow me to use it. Why is this like that?

To follow up with there explanations. Normally, if you create the account directly through the console, you are then allowed to choose your own gamertag. Now, the free gamertag change are for those players that created their accounts online who have been
given a random generated gamertag. That's why they are given a way to choose their desired one.

It is against the ToU and CoC of the Live service to allow others access to your gamertag. This is more for your protection as you never know when someone may do something that makes you lose access to that gamertag.

However, if you create a gamertag for your son on the Xbox One and add it to your Family then he will share your Gold membership on the Xbox One console and be able to earn his own gamerscore.
