    Xbox One Wifi Issues

I have spent most of the day researching an issue I have been having with my Xbox One and Wifi.

I currently have AT&T U-Verse Internet max 12mbs down, I only have the option to connect via wifi (wired connection is near impossible). I consistently reach no more than 2mbs down confirmed via Xbox One Network Settings and accessing Ookla via Microsoft Edge
app with a 90% wifi strength. When playing multiplayer games or downloading updates speeds drastically decrease. This becomes quite frustrating.

I do not experience this on my Ps4, Ps3 or Xbox 360. I even did a speed test with iPhone, placed on top of my Xbox One and I hit 10Mbs. When I adjust channels (from 1, 6 or 11) and run a speed test on my Xbox One, the initial test after the change peaks
at 9Mbs, but upon a second test it drops back down to 2mbs and again in multiplayer it drops further.

I also have access to Comcast internet, with a 70% signal (with a max of 50mbs), I still only reach about 2mbs.

    Things to note:

    • Equipment - AT&T Motorola NVG510
    • Adjusted wireless channels - no success
    • Opened all ports recommended by Xbox - NAT is Open
    • Unable to adjust DNS due to modem restrictions
    • Just about any suggestion on the internet I could find via a google search
Any suggestions or fixes would be awesome.

    :)

cant say i can help much on wifi... i have herd it can be spotty a few posts on xbox direct forum suggest a min and max space between the router and xb1. others have mentioned how the router is setup and how "new" it is and the avaliable speed it can push..

most will say you want it wired for speed... wifi tends to have dips and such in upload/download and will be noticable in most gaming situations. i can even say going wired you may see those high/low speed drops.

i run a gaming router that was a mid/top of the line router few years back.. i had to upgrade from a normal because it just could not keep up with the xb1 in my area. i do have dsl (not commercial) but the basic package.

did they direct you to do a soft reset (holding xbox button for 20 seconds) on console

you can do a netowrk reset. power off router and all that.. turn power off on xb1 for 1 min.(unplug)
you can go into settings netowrk, advanced, alternative mac addy, reset it.. it will restart the xb1 but when it restarts it will reset the wifi and netowrk all together..

unfortunatly i cant say if any or all will work.. but i can say if its an issue odds are it wont go away you will learn what ones work for you over others. i get issues from time to time and recently with anamous and lizard squad its not a netowrk issue but a ddos shut down of xbox servers all together.. one of those things you need to have multiple ways of checking with microsoft to see what services are down.

    wifi issues

So recently my xbox one has not been able to connect to my wifi network. It has before in the past and one day up and stopped working. I've called xbox customer support and went through troubleshoot steps with them but so far they have not helped. The wifi network shows up but whenever i try to test the network connection i get an error message that says 'cannot get an IP address'. I tried a wired connection and that works but i am not able to keep it wired all the time. If anyone might have a solution please help!

Put your Xbox as close to the modem/router as possible

Xbox One is currently as close as it can be to the modem/router.

DNS wouldn't make much difference, if any, at all, unless the DNS that your ISP is using is not resolving to the right server, if that is the case you can set the DNS in the Xbox under the network settings. Could be a defective Xbox, my only suggestion is
to use a Ethernet over power line adapter.

I thought about the power line adapters, trying to avoid spending more momey. Plus, I am not familiar with each circuitry in the apartment I am in and my basic understanding is everything needs to be on the same circuit - correct me if I am wrong though.

I think it's odd that my iPhone 4 can get a consistent wifi speed fro, directly on top of the Xbox but next gen console seems to almost throttle the wifi. I was leaning towards a faulty Xbox, but I can get a good speed when cycling through channels manually
if only for the first go around.

I mentioned the DNS mainly because I'm other forums and threads it was a go to suggestion from most people and wanted to avoid the suggestion outright.

Hello "Andhera" Xbox One Wifi Issues :)

    ..........

Have you considered buying a Wi-Fi Range Extender thing?

    ..........

I am not really that knowledgeable about computers and stuff, but basically this device plugs into the wall and gives your Wi-Fi Signal Strenght a massive boost Xbox One Wifi Issues :)

Yes, I have considered the range extender, but on the fence considering the signal strength per Xbox one is 90%. I have used them in the past, since newer ones come with an Ethernet port, does anyone know if I were to get one would the Ethernet port be a
    viable option to "hardline" in?

Hello "Andhera" Xbox One Wifi Issues :)

    ........

I have one with the Ethernet Port jack in it Xbox One Wifi Issues :)

    ........

Unfortunately from what I remember, the tech support said that it wouldn't work (Ethernet Port as a hard line from the modem).

You still have to get a direct connection to the Modem as far as I know Xbox One Wifi Issues :(

    Xbox One Wifi Issues

I'm having the same problem. On my Xbox One S, I teleport around the map when I play Gears of War 3. By teleporting I mean, I'll be running in a direction, and suddenly the game will re-position me either several paces ahead, or several paces back. Say for
example it want to pick up a weapon; I run to the weapon and stop to pick it up, but before I can happen, my character is like five in-game feet away from where I thought I stopped.

I tried resetting my router config and reconfiguring it with the bare minimum settings. I tried using both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz band on my Xbox One to see if one worked better than the other. I have minimal channel interference and every other device in the
    house works great.

When I play the game on my Xbox 360 with the official WiFi adapter, this issue isn't present, at all. In fact I just played an excellent match where I finished in second place. My shots connect more reliably and there is no teleporting to speak of.

Between input lag, and this issue, Gears of War 3 multiplayer is just not fun to play on the Xbox One. The moral of the story seems to be to keep my Xbox 360 around if I want to continue to play Gears 3. Good thing I didn't sell it like I did 99% of my other
    last-gen games.

I don't know if it's the Xbox One S WiFi chip being crap, or perhaps the chip just doesn't play nice with my particular router (Netgear R7500), maybe backwards compatibility introduces some issues in terms of how the netcode operates, I have no idea. But
this problem *is* real. All I can hope is that it's isolated to Gears 3 or Xbox One backwards compatibility, because I'm going to be irked if this is a problem in Gears 4. I don't have any Xbox One games to test, so I can't even comment if it's unique to Gears
    3 or backwards compatibility.

Well like I said, I picked channel 4 because nearly every other wireless signal in the neighborhood were already using either 1,6,or 11. With most being on 6 or 11. Which is why I chose channel 4.

Yep, I have already turned off B/G protection.

Now with that said, it should be irrelevant, as I have kept the Xbox mostly on 5ghz. And I NEVER detect any neighboring signals on 5ghz.

Yes, the band aid solution works for now. As clunky as it is

My PC gets 90% on 2.4ghz, but it is an inherently bad wireless card that plagues me with trouble often, so I am not sure if that number is reliable. And it is not 5ghz capable.

What do you mean it could be an issue related to coverage of my WLAN? The router is in the room adjacent to the room with the Xbox with a 98% signal strength. But I've also tried it with the router in the same room with no improvement.

I'm using the extender currently only because it was something I already owned and had laying around the house. Which is why I'm probably not gonna purchase a power line kit. I don't feel like spending even more money to make this Xbox work correctly.

Instead of an wireless extender, have you considered a Powerline adapter?
