Xbox One wifi at Hotel

Yesterday I was able to connect to hotel wifi using the MAC address. Xbox live was on, I could see who was online and all that. I loaded up Destiny but when I click start it says I am not connected to the Internet. I'm wondering this: the hotel offers
complimentary 512k wifi. This is slow compared to my normal connection. They offer faster 1.5mbps for a small fee. Will this help? If my laptop takes on this faster connection will the MAC address also transfer that speed to the Xbox one? Thanks.

That depends, are you trying to use a hotel wifi? Hotel wifi can be tricky depending on their settings. I know at many hotels they require you to accept a terms of use or something like that when ever you log on. But with the Xbox you can't do that. Any
chance you could give more info?

Also if you are using an older model Xbox (not the slim) you need a wireless adapter to be able to access wifi.

So there could be a couple things wrong here unfortunately. I don't know that Xbox Live has a minimum required speed, that said if you're maxed out at 512k you're most likely not going to have an enjoyable experience even if you could connect. So yes if
it does work, I would recommend upgrading to the 1.5Mbps. Now with the connection problem, if you go to your settings, and network does it say it's connected to Live? What is your NAT (Open, Moderate, or Strict)? It is possible that the hotel firewall is blocking
something that would make an Xbox Live game connection not possible, so if you do upgrade your internet i would tell the front desk the issue you're facing, and also see if they have any money back policy should you pay to upgrade, and it not work at all.
As far as troubleshooting you're pretty limited as you have no control over the network, and honestly the hotel probably isn't going to open ports up for you to play your Xbox. Perhaps your cell phone has a built in hotspot and your plan allows that, could
be a good plan B ... Hope the hotel boost in bandwidth get's you fixed, but like I said ask and see if you can get your money back if it doesn't work at all

Here is how I connect my console to a hotel network:

Find your mobile phone's wireless MAC address (should be hidden away in the network settings or info)

Copy this address into the advanced network settings of the Xbox One

Using your phone, log into the hotel phone's wi-fi, once you are connected, try connecting on your Xbox One again.

Fingers crossed you should be able to trick the Hotel WiFi into thinking your console is actually the phone.

as soon as something starts to happen, turn the wifi off on your phone.If that doesn't work, try logging in on your phone, turning off the wifi then quickly turning on your xbox and connecting to the hotel WIFI.

Generally hotel internet requires you to access the browser to accept their Terms and Conditions for use. I recommend reaching out to the hotel for help with connecting to your WiFi. Often times hotel WiFi isn't compatible with an Xbox console.

That's why I went to unlimited data as it was cheaper then paying for extra data or hotel wifi. Do you know the company the hotel uses for wifi?

Set a laptop's Mac address to be the same as the xbox. Leave the xbox off. Open the internet on the laptop and get past the hotel login page. Disconnect the laptop from hotel wifi or Lan cable. Power on the Xbox and connect it to the hotel wifi or lan. I
had to use the lan cable because I couldn't change the mac address on my laptop wifi port, only the lan port. Then everything worked great. Played Destiny for hours with no problems.
