Xbox One Weird Fan Noise

I bought a Kinect-less Xbox One a couple of days ago and pretty soon I've realised that the console was emitting a weird rattle, specifically coming from the fan. I've checked with a friend of mine who has an Xbox One and who always told me how very quiet
his system is and he told me that there was definitely something wrong with it.

This morning I went where I bought the first system and I've got a replacement unit, but it seems that this one makes pretty much the same exact noise. It's a bit difficult to explain, so you can hear it here:

I'm in a bit of a weird situation now because I understand that noise perception is something that changes a lot from person to person, so a noise that can be very annoying to me can be ok for somebody else, but still I don't think that a fan should make
that noise.

Does this happen to anybody else?

My new Xbox s fan is making a weird noise. Xbox is not messing but fan is making noises. Any comment?

So hey, i recently bought an xbox one x and the fan makes a weird grinding noise when im playing games, is this actually normal?

 

I have a weird fan noise as well but it sounds a bit like this:

Mine has started to make this noise also as if last Sunday. Was just playing with a mate then he went and I noticed it. No matter what it's there and it loud, use tobe so very quiet.

I spoke to support and they said I could send it back for a new one, just printed off the return label and it has repair on it!!

Don't know if I souls send it off or not. Maybe it was the oct update?

 

Hey, I have just bought the XBOX One Sunset Overdrive bundle yesterday and I'm experiencing the same noise as you are. Did you find any solution?

The best way i can describe the noise is that it kind of sounds like a cricket, would be good if we could get some feedback from microsoft on this so we can at least know if this is of concern or not.

 

Got a Sunset Overdrive bundle a few days ago and also experiencing this cricket noise. It's persistent the entire time the Xbox is on. When a game is running, the sound from the TV kind of drowns it out. The system itself works fine but the sound can get
annoying when the room is quiet.

 

Hi Rubensollie, since HMV refused to to refund my purchase I had no other choice than to go through Microsoft. Considering that even the latest batch of console seem to have the same issue I'm not too confident they'll do anything to fix the problem though.


I'll post an update when the console will be back in my possession!

I think i'm going to try to exchange it tomorrow at my local retailer first (If they'll still accept it, since my sunset overdrive key is already used now), I'll let you know how it works out.

 

My best guess would be fan bearings. Things like this are unpredictable and although it won't effect your consoles at all it is rather annoying sound to be hearing whilst gaming. If you can, I'd say returning it to Microsoft would be your best bet as the
store might have a bad batch and you risk getting a replacement with the same defect.

Rubensollie, unfortunately I already exchanged one console and there was no difference whatsoever. As Nine Eight Nine said, if the whole batch has a manufacturing problem then all the console will be affected.

I decided to go through Microsoft because I want to try every option before giving up, but unfortunately I've read of people who sent the console to Microsoft only to receive it back in the same exact state. This kind of things to me is really not acceptable,
especially considering that Microsoft itself advertises the console as silent.

 

I have the exact same sound and a friend of mine says his system is noisy too. Thing is XB1 is quiet while running apps like netflix or espn, only game play produces the sound. Even tried running all my games from an external HD but no luck. At this point
I don't care, the console works and I'll learn to live with the noise. Only reason I like the system is the ESPN apps that lets me keep up with my sports. If PS4 had that app I'd stick with them.

 

BeatlesRocks84, I noticed you have mentioned HMV refused you a refund? On what basis did they claim they couldnt refund you? Because you are entitled to a refund on faulty goods.

 

Mine never made this sound till after the October update it was dead quiet. Maybe this can be to blame?? Maybe it's so code they got wrong that's telling the fan to keep on going as if the Xbox is hot? I don't know but mine is coming back from support Monday
(fingers crossed) I will take a look at it and test it and let you all know if its fixed. I'm feeling it won't be as I think its all happening because of the update.
