    Xbox one / WD my book external hard drive


    I have an Xbox one with a WD My Book 3TB hard drive. Everything had been working fine until I couple days ago. Xbox started continuously turning on & off by itself. . I Have troubleshooted it and disconnected everything from the Xbox and double checked
    all connections. I have left The Kinect disconnected from the Xbox one , due to I no longer use it. Every time I reconnect the External hard drive to the Xbox it immediately shuts off then starts to shut on & off again repeatedly. The Xbox when connected
    by itself without the external hard drive will turn on and appears to be working fine . I have made sure that the Xbox is plugged into the wall socket and the external Drive is plugged into a completely different socket so they are not sharing the same
    power source . I have also tried to plug the X ternal hard drive into a different outlet on the Xbox from the one it was previously connected to o. Please let me know your thoughts or if you have a solution to my problem thanks .

    Biggest hard drive?

    I was told the Xbox one can hold up to a 16tb hard drive does anyone know if this is true because I was gonna buy a 16tb hard drive on Amazon. WD 12TB My Book Duo Desktop RAID External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBLWE0120JCH-NESN

    Hi Jiza1981, you can generally buy cheap cables over eBay.

    Kotaku did a great post some time ago regarding drives that will work seamlessly with the Xbox One. I've yet to get a hard drive for my Xbox One but I'm almost out of room (Microsoft just love giving me games! Xbox one / WD my book external hard drive :) ) so it's time to get one I think!

    Anyway, without linking anyone to anything external to this website, Kotaku recommended the following external hard drives;

    1TB HGST Touro S 7200rpm Portable External Hard Drive

    WD My Passport 1TB Portable External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0 Black

    WD My Book 4 TB USB 3.0 Hard Drive with Backup

    I've never used that Touro brand so I can't comment on them but I've had good experiences with Western Digital and their external hard drive range. Nice and sturdy units!

    Same problem started for me this morning. Also using a my book but it's a 4tb. Plugged my hard drive into my brothers Xbox and it immediately shut off.

    External Hard Drive interfering with HDMI signal?

    Hello :)

    Have you tested if that WD External drive works properly on a PC? Is that a WD My Book or a WD Elements Desktop drive?

    I would consider testing the drive's health with
    WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic     and see if the device is operating properly.

    Are you using the same power outlet to power both the console and the External Drive? I would try using different power outlets.
