100% agree with Genchy, time moves on and with technology quicker than others

Some are blaming the whole power debate/resolution debate so Microsoft and Sony decided to bring out upgrades quicker than what they suggested with their consoles at first, an 8-10 year life span.

Saying that I remember a lot of well known developers just after the release of XB1/PS4 saying the tech in both machines was already outdated and it would be lucky to last 5 years, seems these folks were right?

Also today more and more people are picking up 4K TVs. There's some great bargains out there and more gamers want ( or near as possible ) 4K gaming.

End of day though, not happy about it, don't spend your cash, your not forced to. I know a few people today that still happily play their 360 only. Want the better hardware, again it's your choice, no one is bending your arm to hand over your cash.

Me I love new tech and as long as it has the games I will invest. So I look forward to Sonys new offering in November and Scorpio next year

Whoa! Who's dropping ReCore just yet? I must admit, given an early access fling with Horizon 3, I've been spoilt for choice, but right now, my cheeks are flush with affection for the little game that could - and DID - steal me away from a hot date

I've managed to overcome a hump with the game's difficulty, and will surely update the ReCore thread when time permits, but as for the XB1 going the way of a dodo (google it!), I'm not the least bit bothered - lest we forget that Gears of War 4 is just THREE
DAYS away (at least for Ultimate Edition buyers) from capitalizing upon the system's strengths. Not to mention another HDR-ready title for those who care about such things

And a footnote regarding ReCore: tomorrow brings a substantial patch which offers improvements across the board, so once again developers are more than comfortable with the tools they've been provided *this* generation, and there should be no cause for alarm
from people looking for reasons to decry Microsoft (cough, OP).

What makes you think people who will buy Scorpio are dropping Xbox One. We can play all our favourite XB1 titles old and new so we have the best of both worlds old and new.

As for your comment about iPhones. For me it wasn't about needing anything. My contract was up so I've upgraded from iPhone 6 to 7 and actually saved myself just under £5 a month and get exactly the same usage. That's a no brainier to me, better phone for
less money.

You do make me curious with you constant comments about people "Thinking they need something" not true at all. If I "want" something I'll invest, when it comes to consoles/games I don't "need" anything.

Like I said before, it's so easy one way or another, want new tech, hand over your cash. Happy with what you got then no need to do anything. No one is bending anyone's arm one way or another.

 

"Recore" is an example of a great game that many people are going to miss simply because they were too busy with the latest re-hash release.

Nobody is talking about it because it's all about This Week's game... which again will be dropped for Next Week's game, come next week.

It captures the fickle short attention span and fixation with "the latest" that is so prevalent this generation.

Good news for Microsoft though.

Before they had to pay testers. Nowadays they have people throwing money at them for the chance to break in tech.

Az you are master of moving from game to game, ignoring what most have to offer. I wouldn't mind betting the time I've spent on Forza Horizon 3 is more than you'll put into your next 20 games ;-)

I think people are too quick to let MS of the hook and if you don't... that's no big deal.

What can you really do about it anyways except not buy an S or Scorpio on day 1.

If you don't agree with what Microsoft are doing or just don't want their new hardware then don't buy it, so simple.

As for the average 8-10 year console life cycles, I think those days are gone. Official staff from Microsoft have tweeted several times there already looking beyond Scorpio so how long will that last. Same with Sony, PS Pro this November but already a lot
of talk of an official PS5 reveal in 2017.

For people like me that just love the newest tech, more money more often is on the cards but as long as I keep getting the enjoyment that I do today from games that I shall keep investing.

 

Az I think people are to quick to put MS on the hook a lot of the times, they act as if MS is their personal friend who monitors how "loyal" they are as they have been with MS since the "OG xbox" was released....newsflash folks MS is a corporation that solely
exists to make money, happily it tries to do so by providing a decent product (most of the time). That's probably a different topic though.

Ps Az yes the games are in your collection but your not playing them, you simply move on, that's your reality and nothing wrong with it.

I'm kind of hoping that this shift towards "drip fed" tech in the console gaming market actually yields an advantage for people like myself.

For example, health issues put a bit of a binder on the gaming budget. I was pretty lucky to get a One just a week or so after launch... haven't always been that lucky and can't always expect to be in my situation.

But what I'm hoping for is a bit of a 'softer line' between generational shifts for consoles. The capability "gap" between console generations has typically been pretty substantial... maybe not quite so pronounced between 360 and 1, but there was still that
feeling of not just being left behind per se, but being dropped behind if that makes sense.

Using phones, since they seem to be fairly relatable and often referred to on this subject, I'm mostly the one who needs to stay a generation (sometimes a few) behind. But that has never bothered me much since being behind with a phone doesn't seem to be
so far behind that I'm using obsolete tech.

I mean, since it seems to be going the direction of Win 10 "tying devices together" so consoles can play with PC and such anyway... it would be nice to think that X1s might be able to play online with Scorpios. That might make the market a bit more fluid.
Last gen consoles may hold a bit more resale value and maybe even trade in value since they won't be "instantly obsolete" when the next gen hits. Would also soften the blow of that feeling one gets when they come to realize that their console has a specific
date (next gen's release) upon which you and/or people on your friend list can't play together anymore because one of you haven't upgraded yet. I can dream at least.

The OP has a right to call them on it? Maybe so but I think the OP would have done better by doing their research before buying the XB1. Why on earth do people buy something then afterwards complain it doesn't have A or B?

I've just ordered myself a pizza but I've done my research, I mean.i know it will turn up cooked and ready to eat otherwise I would have chose another option.

 

@Blue, that's two good points I hadn't even considered, cross generation Xbox gaming would be great. There's a few gaming froiends I lost touch with because of the leap,forward, so that would be very cool and as everyone can still be socially united even
with different consoles.
