XBox one warranty.

I bought my 17 yr old son a Microsoft refurbished XBox oneone with a warranty for xmas. A few weeks ago he turned it on and got some off the wall error code that even Microsoft had never heard of. I put in a repair order and sent it in for repair, (I
jumped through all the hoops). A couple of weeks later they sent it back without repairs. They said the serial number was partially peeled off so it had been tampered with, making the warranty no good. I looked at it and saw no evidence of the serial
number being tampered with. Any suggestions what I can do to get them to recheck? After an hour on the phone with support I got no satisfaction what so ever. If this is how they make money. I am not impressed

I don't think you need a receipt although it would be wise to keep one. I had a defective X1 when they first came out, so I got a new one shipped to me and had the old one sent back. As soon as I got my new one I registered my device and I believe they can
tell on their end when the X1 serial number was bought....so it becomes effective on the date it was sold. Just FYI, on my new console I ordered the extended service plan just to ensure I was covered for a long time from any malfunctions......and after a week
I checked on here to see if my extended service plan still showed and it didnt...so after having contacting Microsoft I did need to read some information off my receipt...so its def smart to try and have one.

Since you got the console refurbished the seller most likely had to break the seal to fix the console to refurbish it. This is why they wont fix it sadly. I know it is unfair that they wont fix refirbished ones. I got one used off of ebay recently and i
may have to send it off to get fixed. I hope the seller has not been broken on it.
