Xbox one virtual keyboard issue

Hi all, Any help greatly appreciated

Firstly, and without prejudice I hope, I have zero knowledge or ability when it comes to technology so bare with me.

I bought my son an xbox one second hand and as far as I can tell it is all fine when it comes to game play ect, however when asked to type anything onto the virtual keyboard, with exception of my authorising password, I am unable to move around the keyboard
with the highlighted key continuously flicking from the one or two gained paces back to the predictive words.

For example, when he went to set up mine craft and name his world, he wanted to write his name and managed to put in the first letter, after that he could move the curser around the first couple of non alphabetical keys but not the actual letters????????
If I was really quick with the controller I could move it onto a couple of letter before being kicked out again.

Has anybody else experienced this and anyone know of a simple fix.

i think at first you can try a power cycle:

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/power-cycle-console

by this reset nothings removed from your console.

and you can try it with a usb tastatur.

No the instruction he is giving is to do a full power down that will clear the cache in the unit as well.

You can do a full reset on the unit but tell it to keep all games.

You can also completely reset the unit to factory defaults wiping out all games etc. Any game you own digitally you can just download again without re-buying and any disc game you can re-install off disc.

Thank you for contacting Forum support.

If you perform a
Power Cycle this will not remove or mess with your games or data. (Think of this like when you turn your phone on and off when it freezes) This just helps to resynch your console.

Once you perform a
Soft factory Reset/Full Resetthat will reload all your console data, and may or may not have you install all games and apps again. (make sure you're connected to the internet to reload your game files).

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart
the console.
