Streaming video from PC to Xbox One

I just got my Xbox One setup (hooray), and I'm trying to stream video from my PC to my Xbox One. I have a PC set up with Media Center which is sharing all my videos on the network. I know Media Center is no longer a thing in Xbox One, so I went to Xbox Video
instead to play my networked video files (seeing as Xbox Video on my PC can do this, I figured that was the logical place to start). After browsing around the app for a couple of minutes I could not find any option to do this.

Eventually, I found an incredibly roundabout way of doing this: Open up the Xbox Video app on my Windows 8 device, playing the video there, then using the charms to go to Devices > Play > Xbox (after adding it to my Devices first). This is an absolutely
*mind boggling* flow, and it absolutely *sucks*.

If I did not have a Windows 8 device, would I be left without the functionality to stream video to my Xbox One? Is there a quicker and easier way to do this?

Right now I'm getting a little sad from all of the bad UI experiences I'm encountering on my Xbox One, and I had really hoped at least this one, very, very, basic scenario would be supported out of the box... But it doesn't appear to be the case?

    Hi Langey

Do I search and you will find quite a bit of information about this. At the moment XBOX One does support a 'media pull' function (as was the case with XBOX 360, where you could browse your video connection from the XBOX 360 System video player.)

You can however push content to the XBOX One either from a PC or other 'DLNA' type product.

I use a 3rd party product 'MediaBrowser', this comes as a PC side 'server component' and then a choice of either browser based interface accessible via IE, or if you have an IOS or Android device, the same guys do a nice little app.

If using the browser app, you can simply find and play content in your MediaBrowser libraries to the browser windows, alternatively with both browser and apps, you can elect to 'play to' your Xbox one. The advantage (I have found) is that playing directly
through the browser only seems to give stereo sound, whereas 'play to' will give surround sound if encoded. MediaBrowser (with you PC properly configured with the appropriate codecs) will allow you to play many formats including AVIK (DivX / XVid), MKV, MP4
    etc for pretty good resolution.

    Hope this helps!

Sorry... I have just sat down after a very long drive and am not thinking (or typing) straight. Forgot to say that the tools mentioned are 'free' (although they will take your money via subscriptions), and very well documented and supported. There are
other options available, although I haven't used them (if it ain't broke...!)

    cheers

Features that need to be added - Constructive Feedback

I'm unable to stream video from my PC to the Xbox One. I purchased 3 Xbox 360's and could stream video from my PC to all of them. Now my PC can't even see the Xbox One on the network and the Xbox One Video player doesn't see the PC. For a machine that
is supposed to be a multimedia powerhouse and be the "One" box to connect to your TV, this is a huge oversight and disappointment.

Anyone know how to get this to work? I want to view shared videos and images over the network and view them on the Xbox One.

Are these videos from Xbox live or are they streamed from a PC?

xbox one can't access files on a network ???

Found a way to stream media to xbox one without running to my PC to start and stop the video. Download the app ArkMC available for android and apple. It acts as a DLNA controller. You can select videos from a DLNA device on the network and initiate the
stream to xbox one. I've used it to play from my PC and from my network attached DLNA server. I mainly use Tversity on the PC with ffmpeg codec, it will stream virtually any format to the xbox with on the fly transcoding.

When Xbox One's operating system is fully updated, it won't need WMC to stream videos from PC's or other devices.
