xbox one video defaults to 640x480

Hi, I have my xbox one s hooked up to a 4k tv. sometimes i dont want to turn on the tv and do game streaming. when i do, the console reverts to 640x480 and i cant change it. please fix.

Hey Thomas,

I split your post from the
thread you posted on earlier, that way we can assist you more directly.

So it seems that your Xbox is stuck on the low resolution mode that usually appears when their is an issue with the HDMI output and your TV is not properly detecting the Xbox and is using the "recommended" settings which is what's causing it to revert back
to low resolution.

There is a fix for this I've seen work with some people experiencing the same issue. Open up your settings and go to Display and Sound>Video Output>Video Fidelity and overscan. Under the column listed as Display, you should see TV connection with a drop
down menu. By default it should say Auto-detect (Recommended). Select that and switch to HDMI. Select the option to override your TV settings. Once that is set, go back to the TV resolution and you should be able to set it to what you want and what your TV
can handle.

Let us know the results!

My xbox one s is stuck in 640 × 480 it will not change it says i can go up to 720 1080 but it doesnt it say mode not support if i do i cant play my games on such a low resolution what do i need to do

When the Xbox displays at 480p, this is because it hasn’t been properly detected by the TV yet (it did not get the EDID from the TV). At this resolution, the display troubleshooter would appear.

This could be due to a faulty or improperly seated HDMI cable, a device between the Xbox and TV is interrupting something, or possibly some other issue.

This works to get the xbox to run in hd but unless it auto detects i cant seem to force it to run in 4k!
