    Xbox One - Using Kinect for Game Chat


    Hi, Looking for some help.

    My son uses a headset for fortnite party chat but has managed to break two already. He is currently hearing the other players in the party chat through his TV speakers but cannot talk to them. I actually prefer this as I can hear what they are all saying!

    I'm trying to work out if I can buy an Xbox One Kinect and he could use this as a mic and then have the sound coming out of the TV speaker as it is now. Would this work ok? I've tried searching it and it seems like it should work but then I've also seen
    comments about needing some sort of Kinect adapter.

    Can anyone tell me if they do this or if it would work or would I need another adapter before I go ahead and buy a Kinect.

    Better Informed about features

    I couldnt find anywhere on this site if xbox one kinect does in game chat instead of using a headset. Apparently kinect does do in game chat but microsoft failed to add that.

    Can i use an xbox one app to download games to my xbox one console when im not home? No idea

    So many questions about features but i cant find the answers

    Use Kinect to voice chat in games like Diablo 3????

    I forget if I can use the kinect somehow to voice chat in games instead of using a headset? I don't mean thru the Xbox One chat, I mean the games in game chat?

    I do not have my Kinect hooked up or I would test it myself.

    Xbox One - Using Kinect for Game Chat

    Hello.

    The Kinect can be used as a microphone. When the device is connected, there will be a setting allowing you enable the kinect microphone. This will allow your son to communicate through that and you'll still hear the rest of chat through the tv.

    The only issue is that the other players may get an echo from their own voices and a lot of background noise, as the kinect doesn't really have noise cancellation.

    If you can find an Xbox One Kinect, you will need an adapter cable, if it is an S or X model Xbox One. These adapter cables are rarer than hens teeth and if you can find one, the seller wants silly money for it.

    Hello Icorona,

    It was stated that no Xbox 360 Kinect games would be backwards compatibility due to incompatibilities with the Kinect peripherals, which leads me to believe you would be unable to use the Xbox One Kinect for Xbox 360 game chat, but unfortunately I do not
    know for sure.

    If you want to try this, in Kinect's settings make sure that "use Kinect for chat" is enabled and then load up the Xbox 360 game in question. If it works, it works; but if not, as I suspect, then it's likely just something that is not supported.

    Sorry for the lack of a definitive answer, but I hope this helps.

    Some games don't seem to recognise the Kinect's microphone I believe - it's how they're picking up the input
