  1. Xbox One Updated Itself and Save File Reverted to one 3 Days Earlier - Lost Hours of Progress

    Hello

I have come across a very annoying issue where I was playing Abe's Oddysee: New N Tasty and I powered the console off for around 30 mins and when I returned and pressed the power button it showed that it was updating itself so I had to wait for it to finish.
I then had to load the game back up but when I did I had lost two levels of game play as it had reverted to a save file from 11th losing me hours of progress (this game is really hard too!).

I have looked online and tried starting the game without being connected to Xbox Live, deleting the local save file, etc. However it doesn't matter what I try but it always syncs back to the same save file from 3 days ago.

Looking online it appears this is a common issue generally and the only solution is to re-play all the levels again which isn't really a solution.

Rather than just pausing the game and powering off, do I always need to first exit the game to ensure this doesn't happen? Every time you reach a checkpoint (about every 10 mins) the gave indicates it is saving and you can also do your own quick saves and
it was re-loading fine each time I died (which happens often with this game).

    Thanks

    Robin

    :)

G'day Snooty. I'm afraid I'm having a little trouble understanding the situation. Your save is lost, or reverted to an earlier save?

If you will, please start a new thread and offer up some details as to what's going on, including what you've tried already to bring back that progress. Thanks!

    Fallout 4 save files

Disconnect your Xbox from the network so it is offline.

    Load Fallout

It should default to looking at your local save files. Load the latest one and you should hopefully see your save with latest progress.

Load up that save file and then reconnect to the Internet.

Then save you game again, you might see a version difference pop-up and make sure you select the option of using your local save as the primary and the cloud should get updated with that correct save.

You may need to load up a few of the save files to find the one you want as Fallout 4 creates multiple saves.

If the save isn't available locally, it is likely your progress is lost unfortunately.

  4. Xbox One Updated Itself and Save File Reverted to one 3 Days Earlier - Lost Hours of Progress

Reading further into this, it seems the Xbox Live Servers can go offline, effectively disconnecting you so saves stop syncing and then when you go back online such as after rebooting your console, causing it to try to reconnect, the older saves sync back
to the console, overwriting newer local saves.

Is no comparison done to the local and cloud saves to see which has a later date?

This would appear to be what has happened as all the more recent achievements are intact.

There are many posts on the internet of people experiencing exactly the same issue such as:

    www.reddit.com/.../just_lost_over_12_hrs_of_saved_data_on_fallout_4

Is it possible to add a comparison to stop people losing all their save files?

P.S. Why is there no scrollbar on this reply box either!?

  5. This has just happened to me a second time.

The game says it is saving often but after a while I tried pressing the Xbox button once to exit to the Xbox dashboard and then using the menu option I closed the game and loaded it back up again straight away only to find I had lost my progress for a second
time and was back to the same place again.

I then tested it again by using the game's menu option to quit the current game and this shows the save icon again and seems to "save my save" but I'm not sure if this is just luck or whether this is the option I need to follow but I can't really trust this
game not to lose my progress again and am really sure whether to just give up with it.

Does anyone have any tips to make sure saves really are saved?

    Thanks

    Robin

  6. Further to my last post, it appears this must be a bug with this particular game as opposed to the way saves work in general as it happened 6 times in total (having never happened to any other game) and I could even save and exit my game only to find the
save screen showed no saves whatsoever and I had to fully exit the game and re-load to then be presented with the older save file and not the one I had just created.

The only way to get through the game was to keep doing a small part and then saving and exiting the game so at least if it lost my save I hadn't lost too much progress but this did make the game much more frustrating to complete than it already was.

I cannot see anything else posted about these issues with this game in particular but find it strange to think it is only happening to me when it has happened so many times.

Also even though the date and time, and DST are correct on the console, this game displays the time against saves one hour out.

Cloud Gaming saves (browser based gamepass)

This morning it loaded the old save that I had progressed in once more. I think I'm stuck with that one.

I can only assume that if the server says it can't find your save file and you start a new game, any progress you make will be overwritten once it finds the save file once again. Luckily I only lost about 3 hours.
