Xbox One Unusable whilst updating?

Hi All,

I have a rather slow internet connection until they rollout fibre. When my Xbox does an update it tends to take a while so I turn it off at night as usual and let it carry on flashing (updating). Now morning comes and I wan't to watch a bit of TV (which
runs through the Xbox).

Am I correct in thinking I am unable to turn on or use the Xbox whilst it is still updating? I have tried the power button and turning on the controller but it seems to me as though I have to sit and wait for her majesty to complete her download before
I can be graced with her attendance.

Xbox One Unusable

You could try to download the latest update on a PC and use a USB stick to update the Xbox.

Follow This Link to get a guide on how to do that.

Or as a last step, reset the console to factory settings.

Xbox One Unusable

I have an Xbox One that is around 3 years old, 500 Gb. Recently it has become very difficult to use and in the last 2-3 days unusable. Apparently, an update did not install properly so I tried an offline update. That did not work. So after many, many reboots,
and several offline update attempts I reset the console. However, now it may or may nit respond to various commands, like logging in or checking on game download status, will not download games - stuck at 1% - and hangs often. It is basically unusable. Any
suggestions?

Sorry but if the console is forcing the updates then you do need to wait until it is complete (same as the 360). However, if you set your console to Instant On in the Settings (use your voice to turn the console on/off) then the updates will come in automatically
for you when you are not using the console.

No it's an update that is done whilst 'not in use'. The trouble is it starts the update when I turn it off to go to bed so the console remains flashing. Come the morning it is still flashing (updating) and I am unable to switch it on to watch TV. If I switch
it off I get a corrupt update and it won't startup correctly (I did it a while ago).

With the amount of unused gamertags that are out, it makes it difficult to find an interesting unique gamertag to yourself. There are plenty of gamertags that are lying dormant and unused.

Why let them sit there? What if Microsoft themselves sold these "Dormant" Gt's? Make profit on their end, whilst still giving us the consumers something we may want?

Try to turn off the console, and unplug the power cord, then wait for 1 to 2 minutes to plug it back in and turn on the console!

If the issue persists, I would strongly suggest trying the troubleshooting steps below:

Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear

Then select System > Settings > devices and streaming > blue ray > persistent storage > clear three times > restart console.

Also, It would be best if you can delete the local save of the games you are facing troubles launching.

If the issue keeps on happening, try to soft reset the console by; Settings > System > Console Info > Reset This Xbox > Reset and Keep my Games and Apps.
