I have bought an xbox one and want to set it up for tv. this is what I understand .... I need an external hard drive to be able to record stuff, the xbox digital tv tuner and a subscription to xbox live ?

with these I can then watch live tv (limited to the 'oneguide' tv programme list) ?

if I then also subscribe to 'now tv' I will have those additional channels appearing in my 'oneguide' list ?

from my now extended 'oneguide' list I can schedule and line-up recordings in advance and / or line up recordings for whole series over a period of months ?

or do I need something extra for this ??? ie: additional set-top box or a sky box for example ??

    thanks

    :)

You will be able to record programs to an external hard drive, just not yet, that feature was announced at last years E3, but as of yet its not a feature of the Xbox One.

I would imagine it will be shown off at this years E3, and then Phil Spencer will say "and you all will be able to use this feature right now"

Firstly , you don't need an external hard drive to record game's gameplay clips.

At the moment its not possible to record TV to an external hard drive, that was announced last year but as of yet, it hasn't been implemented into the Xbox One.

As for watching TV through your Xbox, you can plug virtually anything into the HDMI in and as long as the Xbox has it on its list of "TV providers" your good to go.

Basically all you do is plug the Now TV box into the back of the Xbox One, then go to the system settings on the Xbox and look for a setting called TV setup (or something like that, at work so cant remember)

It will then take you through the process of setting up the Xbox to work with your Now TV box, and that's pretty much it.

  5. No recording of anything from the TV as yet, but you can plug that Now box into the HDMI in on your xbox one and watch the tv via it, and as a bonus, you can have the TV snapped onto the right of the tv, so you can play a game and have live TV/YT or any
other streaming provider, playing on the right of the TV at the same time.

I have the Tv tuner myself, works perfectly, i even found i can use this snap feature to play music from YT, almost just like playing our own music for games feature that is not here yet.

XB1/LiveTv works Great! but please add the following...

I would like to follow up on this idea of starting XBox One into TV Mode. It should be possible to wake up XBox one with two voice commands. One going to Xbox Startscreen ("XBox ON") and the other one with booting up to TV ("XBox TV")..
