Xbox One turning on randomly all of a sudden

Over the weekend my xbox one has started randomly turning on, and then my TV will also turn on. It can do this multiple times in a row or it will go hours and then turn on. I have never had this issue prior and have had this console, along with the 360 console
for years and no problems. I have tried unplugging it from the surge protector and just plugging into the wall (saw that suggestion on another forum) but that did not help.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to fix it?!

Xbox One Elite turning itself on and off on its own

My Xbox One Elite console has recently started turning itself on and off randomly!

All of a sudden it can just come on, sometimes staying on, other times turning off again and sometimes turning on again!

Also when it’s on it will randomly turn off whilst playing games or watching Netflix and stuff.

I have hoovered the dust out of the console and the power supply hoping it could be something like that affecting it but still have the problem.

I thought it may be something to do with a faulty on off button as it’s on and off being the issue.

Has anyone had a similar problem and remedied it or is this something that can’t be fixed!

Hey there SwanGirl!

Check to see if your console is set to
instant-on or energy-saver mode. If it's set to instant-on, go ahead and switch to energy-saver. You can also try

power cycling your console to see if that helps.

Hopefully one of those two does the trick for you but keep us posted.

It's kind of hard not to hate them when they intentionally go on Xbox Live and you're just randomly talking to a kid and all of a sudden you hear a little kid screaming at you cursing.

Weird, it randomly just shut up all of a sudden while I was playing and it's quiet now (like when I install any other game to the HD)

Is your Xbox connected to a surge protector or power strip? Those are known to cause little electrical issues like randomly turning on.

Ideally, the Xbox should be plugged directly into the wall for power, as the power supply has its own built-in surge protection anyway.

It is connected to a power strip. But it always has been so why would it start acting up this year? Would that mean my power strip is going bad?

I'll try plugging it in directly and see how it goes. Thanks!
