    XBox One True HD sound output issue


    Hi,

    I have seen much discussion about this but I still have not found a solution. I have a Denon a/v amp and when I run Netflix through my Virgin box I get True HD but through Xbox I only get DTS Surround. (The same is true when I play Blu Ray)

    I assume the answer is no but is there some setting I am missing to get the best sound out of my xbox? I have just bought a v good quality cable too just in case that was it.

    This is correct what is happening is the Xbox is decoding the dts master or true HD sound track and outputting it to the amp as 7.1/5.1 (multichannel) channels of uncompressed audio. what your sony bluray was doing is called bitstreaming, where it passes the dts master HD or True HD track direct to the amplifier where it is decoded hence the display shows dts or true hd.

    Don't worry you are hearing the HD sound its just your using a £400 games console to decode it instead of your dedicated amplifier. Hopefully Microsoft will implement bitstreaming soon for those of us who like to see our dts etc displayed.

    for the rest i've not even unpacked my xbox yet so cannot help you. but for #3 it could be that the onkyo will not pasthrough multichannel audio or if it is your tv cannot recieve uncompressed audio.

    Sky HD box to Xbox One input, xbox output to tv. no splitters. I have no external sound system so delay is on hdmi audio. Sky HD direct to TV has no audio/video sync issues, audio delay is only present with Xbox one in the circuit.

    Yes, the bitstream DTS or Dolby Digital setting gives you true 5.1 channels. Check your receiver settings if you have the impression the channels are not discrete.

    So the PS4 adds notifications and other sounds to the DTS-HD or Dolby True HD stream? Youknow what this means, right? It doesn't pass through the audio stream either. Granted, it does seem to be able to output DTS-HD and Dolby True HD. But what's the benefit?
    You're arguing that most receivers, like your Harman Kardon, do a much better job at decoding the audio then the console does. But don't you realize that even the PS4 touches the audio beforehand? Otherwise it wouldn't be able to mix in UI sounds.

    The problem is in the xbox one xbox one. In the bitstream, Dolby true hd and dts hd-master formats are not supported by the hdmi cable.
    These sound formats are only supported on the bluray disc. However, the image file is not supported by h.d.d

    Sorry to hear you're having issues connecting your console to your surround sound.

    You are correct, there is no optical output port on the Xbox 360 E console.

    For digital output to a stereo or home entertainment system, you'll want to connect your console to your HD TV using the HDMI cable. Then you should be able to use a cable to connect the digital audio output port on the television to the digital audio input
