Xbox One to Xbox One data transfer

How do you transfer data from one Xbox One internal Hard drive to another?

I know this will sound like a ridiculously frivolous but I’m toying with the idea of getting the limited edition White console with Sunset Overdrive and then selling my existing Xbox One. But how do I get all my purchases and downloaded games from the
internal hard drive of my original console transferred to the hard drive of the new one? I’m guessing I can’t just physically transplant the drive into the new console. Will I need to use an external hard drive to copy the stuff over?

You can use an external hard drive ranging in size from 256GB to 16TB to store your content on. As a matter of fact you can leave the external storage attached to your console for easy moving when needed.

A much better feature than having to transfer content all the time.

 

Having now gone through the process, I'd disagree that the current process is easier. I had to move each piece of content to the hard drive one by one. And then move them onto the next console one by one. VERY ANNOYING!

 

I think what onyx was saying was, instead of doing what you did, copying them all to the internal of the new console, a much better solution is to get an external hard drive (somewhere in the 2+ TB range) and LEAVE all of your content on that drive. You
can then plug the External Drive into ANY Xbox One and not have to reinstall or re-copy any of your content, it'll just be there and work.

You can also have your console set to automatically install any new items directly to the External Drive instead of the internal, so you can get a new console, take your hard drive to your friends, etc. and never have to re-transfer all of that data.

 

Exactly. As a matter of fact, if you have one console set as your Home console and purchase an item on the console that is not the Home console it will download to both.
