Xbox One to Windows 10 Streaming Questions

    Hello, everyone.

Let me apologize in advance if this has been answered before and I missed it in the support pages. With that said, I have questions regarding how Xbox One to Windows 1o streaming works. My questions are thus:

Can my family continue to utilize the Watch TV feature while I play a game? When I connected from my bedroom my family said they were booted from watching TV. Obviously, if my streaming disturbs them from watching TV I cannot do it.

Secondly, can I stream remotely with the television connected to the Xbox turned off? There are scenarios at night where I would like to game privately in the bedroom and leave the family room quiet when everyone has gone to sleep.

If I cannot achieve these two scenarios I hope the Xbox team takes these points into consideration during development on further updates for the apps. At present, it seems as if I must have full control of my Xbox and have it on, along with the television
to stream, which is undersireable. If I am mistaken and someone could help me with the proper configuration of streaming I would greatly appreciate it.

    :)

    XBOX 360 and Game Streaming

Are you trying to stream a game from Xbox 360 to Windows 10? That's not supported - the media center of old was for streaming videos and songs.

There is a way to stream Xbox 360 games to Windows 10, but it involved using an Xbox One and playing the backwards compatible Xbox 360 on the Xbox 360, then streaming the Xbox One to Windows 10.

Streaming to Windows 10 PCs doesn't work at the last stage

    Hello,
I've tried streaming to two windows 10 devices (a HP laptop and a Surface Pro 3) , I've tried hard rebooting the Xbox one twice, and rebooting the Windows 10 devices numerous times. Also tried the Windows 10 devices on wireless and wired. (The Xbox One
    is always wired)
when I click to start streaming, it says it's connected to the Xbox One, the Xbox One reports a "username has started streaming" then the Xbox app just goes "blanked out" as if the stream should have popped over the app's window

The "test streaming" feature always reports a success, however when streaming or trying the test, I never see much notable network activity in task manager of the Windows 10 machines.
    Kind regards.

  4. Xbox One to Windows 10 Streaming Questions

    Metal Hounds,

Currently the Xbox One can only stream via mirroring. So whatever the Xbox One has is what the streaming displays on your PC. Without obtaining additional cables/hardware (splitters, etc.) you will need to removing the HDMI IN for your cable box and plug
it directly in to the TV. This way the TV can be in use under a different HDMI input while your Xbox is on and you can stream from a different room.

The Xbox has to be turned on to stream, but it's not to say that you can't have the Xbox One turned on and the TV turned off. This way you can stream to your PC with the TV off and only the hum of the Xbox One.

Both of these topics have been discussions from various members of the community but if there are any improvements you would like to see you can always head over to

I solved this by having two outputs from my cable box. HDMI to the XB1 and Component straight to the TV. So if my kids want to watch TV I switch the input over to Component and they have full control of the TV while I am streaming games from the XB1.
I can also turn off the tv and stream without a problem. It will initially turn on when I boot up the XB1 but I just turn it off after it starts.

Then I can also watch TV while grinding my RPG games Xbox One to Windows 10 Streaming Questions :)

New Xbox App - Streaming from console

    https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-streaming/console-streaming Try that.
Thank you for replying - but that link is for mobile devices specifically, not Windows 10 devices, which is what the OP was asking about.

Currently, the Xbox Console Companion streaming still works on Windows 10. The reason OP was asking about the Xbox app on Windows 10 is because the Xbox Console Companion app is prompting users to install the Xbox app, which does not have streaming support.
I know that there is supposed to be a new Console Streaming app on Windows 10 later this year, but it is not available yet. I was just clarifying that for the OP and anyone else asking the same question about the new app, since I came here with the same question.
