  1. Xbox one to Vizio 5.1 surround speakers (S3851w-D4) connectivity issue - surround sound not ...

    Hi,

I am trying to connect vizio 5.1 surround speakers (Model S3851w-D4 - they don't have A/V receiver) to Xbox one and its not working in spite of following options that I tried. I was hoping that I could find some help to set these speakers.

Speakers are tested individually, tested using Blue Ray Player (BR player connected to TV using HDMI, speakers connected to TV using optical digital cable). Speakers are working properly. It used to work perfectly using Xbox 360. Recently I bought Xbox one
and started facing this issue. Here are the options I tried:

Option 1: Speakers are connected to TV using Optical Digital cable. TV is connected to Xbox one using HDMI. In audio output settings on Xbox one console, when I changed HDMI output to 5.1 uncompressed I have been getting error "There was a problem using
this setting. Make sure your audio receiver supports it. Also make sure to choose atleast one audio setting. Both cannot be off
(0x80bd0009)". I verified that optical audio is off. Somehow Xbox is not identifying HDMI/TV as capable for 5.1 surround system.

Option 2: Connected speakers directly to Xbox one using optical digital cable, changed HDMI output to off, Optical audio to "Bitstream out" and Bitstream format to "Dolby" (tried with DTS surround too)". In this case Vizio sound bar flashes the desired option
like DTS or Dolby, but still audio comes as stereo, my satellite speakers are not getting any sound at all.

I have kept "Audio" option to "Surround" in "TV & Oneguide --> Audio & Video" settings in both the options. A day ago, I have updated console to Windows 10, hoping that it would fix the issue.

I have been playing YouTube 5.1 video (test video) and Netflix movies to test this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    :)

    Surround Sound Complications

    Hello Community,

I would like to consider myself a Techie but when I setup my Xbox One I got for a present I only ran into frustration and issues.

    Equipment & Setup:

Xbox One plugged into a Sony Receiver via HDMI. Receiver plugged into TV via HDMI cable.

Xbox One set to 5.1 uncompressed (as suggested via researching this online). Receiver states 3/2.1 PCM - I set it to PLII Movie, thus 5.1 Surround Sound.

    Issue:

Hulu app will not play 5.1 surround sound, only FL & FR speakers.

Previews on a Blu-Ray wouldn't play 5.1 surround sound but the actual movie would.

Pandora will only play through FL & FR speakers, no sub.

Netflix will play 5.1 surround sound. Games will play 5.1 surround sound.

    Confusion:

Why are some items playing surround sound and others are not? My previous console had no issues playing Hulu at 5.1 surround sound with same HDMI setup. My other devices I'm using on the receiver are playing 5.1 surround sound just fine.

Seeking help with this. I would hate to return the Xbox One due to something as trivial as Audio. Especially since a device as simple as my Chromcast and PS3 had no issues whatsoever. But if I can't solve this within the week I will have to return for a
    PS4.

Thank you ahead of time for your help and support with this,

    Tom

Simulated Atmos from XBOX One S?

No, the Xbox One S does not simulate ATMOS from a 5.1 source.

However, since the Xbox One can run multiple sound applications at any given time (for example you run an Atmos enabled game, while having a music app running in the background), the console will ALWAYS output an ATMOS signal to your receiver, since the
game sound is in spatial surround.

Into that ATMOS spatial surround sound track, the stereo music track will be mixed in. But since the music track does not have surround or height information in it's stereo signal, you won't get the music in ATMOS spatial surround, even if your receiver
    shows ATMOS coming in.

If you watch a 5.1 video in VUDU, the Xbox will distribute the 5.1 sound information to the front, center, back surround and subwoofer channels for the ATMOS signal, and your ceiling speakers for example won't get sound.

So even if your receiver shows ATMOS, and you have twenty speakers mounted in your home cinema, only the standard 5.1 speakers will produce sound, if you watch a 5.1 sound source.

  5. I got it working by setting sound settings to "Stereo" in Audio Output. If you set 5.1 or auto detect, it is not working. Instead I set this as Stereo. Hope it works for you.

    Doby 5.1 Surround issues.

5.1 surround isn't meant for headsets. It's meant for full surround sound speaker setup.
