Xbox One to old Dolby ProLogic Analog Receiver--No Surround Sound

With my Xbox 360, I am able to get Surround Sound output from my old analog only (no digital inputs of any kind) Pioneer ProLogic Reciever (VSX-D1S). This receiver is a monster for music at around 170W per channel into 8Ohms, so I'd really like to keep
it and honestly Dolby ProLogic sounds great to me.

My setup looks like this: Xbox 360 to HDMI input 1, Xbox One to HDMI input 2. I then have RCA out jacks running from my TV to the TV input on my Pioneer Receiver. I'd think it was the TV, but like I said, I get Surround Sound when using the Xbox 360.

The only output I can get from the Xbox One is just Stereo Out with no surround. I have tried all settings in the Sound menu, but no luck.

Is there something I am missing or is the Xbox One not sending Matrixed surround like the 360 did?

I looked at some Digital to Analog converters, but they do not support surround output either, just L/R audio apparently. Any ideas or am I at the end of the road with this old thing?

    :)

    Dolby Surround on HDMI?

Sad to say that this is still an issue 3 years later. I have a Dolby ProLogic receiver with the XBox One S connected to it via HDMI. When I try to play movies in Apps like YouTube TV the sound is horrible... flat, tinny, and only 2 speakers. I have tried
every surround sound option on the Xbox including bitstream and nothing is recognized by the receiver as surround sound. In contrast, I also have a Chromecast and it properly sends full, rich 5.1 surround sound over HDMI to the SAME RECEIVER. I was going
to use the Xbox as the centerpiece of my home theater, but this is a deal killer. It's beyond ridiculous that a $300 Xbox can't do what a $35 Chromecast can do.

    Still no Dolby Digital 5.1

I see all of these posts from 2013, so I assume that no one else is having problems with Dolby Sound. I've got the same Sony receiver that my XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 were connected to and worked flawlessly. I get 5.1 sound through apps (Netflix and Hulu).
When I play games or try and watch a Bluray or DVD, I can't get Dolby Prologic, DTS or any 5.1 surround. The center channel doesn't work. I've switched HDMI inputs on my receiver and still have the same result. Is there and kind of fix for this?

Disregard issue. It is fixed. For anyone having the same issue, here are the settings that gave me Surround Sound:

In Settings > Display & Sound > Digital Audio:

    HDMI Audio > Bitstream Out

    Optical Audio > Bitstream Out

    Bitstream Format > Dolby Digital

This is output to my HDMI TV then connected via analog RCA cables from the TV output to the input of my Receiver which is set to Dolby ProLogic. Hope this helps someone in the future.

I wonder if this means your TV is accepting Dolby Digital 5.1 and does the downmix itself, or if the Xbox 360 supplies it with Dolby Pro Logic II-encoded 2-channel PCM.

It would be interesting if more techheads with Xbox One's could check if there's matrix encoded surround or only "magic surround" from 2-channel PCM output. I don't have an Xbox One yet, so I can't help investigate.

This whole HDMI bitrate vs 7.1 uncompressed is driving me nuts?!?! What is the best/correct setting?!?!

I don't think true 7.1 is available yet, but using PCM from the XB1 may decode it similar to Dolby Digital EX, which is 5.1 and then uses surround processing on the Rear Right and Lefts to make up the additional back channels.

Personally, after reading this thread, I'm changing my setting to Dolby Digital 5.1, since I have a THX Ultra 2 Plus. certified receiver. I'd rather my receiver decode the audio as it probably does a better job of processing the stream.

True 7.1 streams use Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Dolby ProLogic IIz is 2 channel audio which is processed into 5.1 (not discrete channels). The difference between Pro Logic and IIz is that the rear surround channels use full frequency response
where original ProLogic does not (low end frequencies are kept in the front channels)
