Xbox one to launch in china in July.

When I was in China in 2006 it was very easy to find a PS2. In fact I've seen them in quite a few different houses that I stayed in. They will get whatever they can afford. It doesn't matter who makes it. People there do not make a lot of money.

Koreans aren't fond of Japanese people, but they love their Playstations.

I lived in each country for 1 year each and while that isn't a lot of time I can almost tell you it doesn't matter if it is a Japanese/American product or not. They want what is accessible and affordable.

 

Microsoft has their work cut out for them if they think they can take China by storm and outsell the better know PS brand. I don't see that happening... Prior to XB1 launch I would argue that anything is possible, but now that reality has set in, I don't
see it going that way.

Microsoft can't even crack Japan after all of these years. They haven't made a dent in the market there. They don't have a sense for what Asian gamers like or want. I think 100K console is being too generous, unless they are talking about lifetime. XBox
is just not as respected or well know in the world as playstation is.

 

Xbox can't crack Japan because they already have 2 local, very strong consoles released over there. Nintendo has sold huge amounts of everything since the 80s and Playstation (the main Xbox rival) has had a whole extra generation longer on the market with
the PS1 coming from the mid 90s whereas the Xbox only came about in 2001/2002 where it still got beaten by the PS2 everywhere in the world. Thanks to all of this, Sony and Nintendo have secured all the great Japanese studios and games and it makes sense for
them to keep local games on a local consoles.

That's Japan though... 4 pages of this thread have already shown with good reasoning that China is a completely different market altogether and Xbox already stands a good chance. With the recent lifting of the console ban it will act as a great opportunity
and clean slate for all market competitors.

 

China boasts of a significant chunk in the World's PC Gaming demographic, the ONE console is a definite downgrade for many who all ready game on even a modest PC in that country, the ONE will fail there just as it all ready has everywhere else, M$ are grasping
at straws here...

 

I would agree with that logic Dynamic except for that fact that Microsoft has been in Japan since 2002 and has failed completely and miserably to make a dent.

That statement has no merit to it whatsoever and if it were even accurate .. Microsoft would have never cracked any territory it released Xbox in. Including US as both Nintendo, Sega and Sony were the favorites here.

The reason Microsoft doesn't do well in Japan is they don't understand the culture of gaming in Japan and how to market to it. It's that simple. Look no further than the botched launched last Nov and ask yourself if they even know what they are doing in
America... let alone Europe and Japan where the PS4 is outselling it 2:1.

 

PS4 is doing very badly in Japan. Those 325,000 consoles sold were shipped and most of those were sent back to the US, counted as sold AGAIN (shipped). So there are around 6.5 million PS4'S in existence and 7 million have been counted as sold (shipped).
Knack sold 160,000 copies and was bundled with every PS4 sold there. They lied.

Xbox puts its numbers Sold Through but I expect that it will still crack 200K or more in China within a month.

 

This is because mobile gaming is now the "thing" in Japan. Mobile is big and 3DS sales there show it's the mobile market Sony need to attract. But the PS Vita is...meh.

 

@Virtual Duck I think everybody understands you don't like Sony you have made your point now move on.

PS4 is selling ok in Japan it was the sales that where expected they are not very interested in consoles but understand the X1 is going to sell a very small fraction of what the PS4 has sold which is kinda the pont.

Your numbers are just wrong too don't play word games like Microsoft has done with there shipped numbers PS4 has sold not shipped over 7 million.

 

@ A Virtual Duck. Honestly where do you get your rubbish from. Sony have said that they sold through more than 7 million units. Sold through means sold through to the consumer.

Read the official post, it clearly says sold through on the second line. Where the heck are you getting 6.5 million and give me a link to these claims that they sent unsold units back to the us and counted again as sold.

You then say that microsoft gives us numbers sold through which is total rubbish as they just said last week that 5 million have been sold in to retailers, yet theres probably over half a million consoles sitting on shelves, we will never know because microsoft
wont give there sold through numbers.

How dare you bismirch the good name of Sony on these Official XBox Forums?

If you want to talk about XBox just try and restrict yourself to games that are less than 1080p and under 60 FPS OK? "Forza 5" is Off Limits. Understood?

Try and keep the fact that Microsoft has better exclusives and more actual Next Gen games to yourself and for the love of Pete, don't point out that the XBox ONE could sell more copies in China than the PS 4 sold in Japan ok?

Let's imagine for a moment that the Xbox One does sell well in China - I'd like to know what the advantages and disadvantages of that for MS and for us would be in general.

Personally, I'm almost afraid of it being successful over there, because it could mean half of the competition could soon be speaking Chinese (or Mandarin) and the connections for those of us in the U.S. wold be off the wall terrible, even with dedicated servers.


Not that I have anything against the Chinese, I'd actually be happy for them, but I worry that my games could potentially suffer as a result if games with matchmaking start to constantly match me with them on the other side of our wonderful, not-so-tiny,
blue and green marble.

 

@Virtual Duck I heard from a friend who knows a guy that works with the cousin of a manager of Best Buy that Sony is considering stopping manufacturing of the PS4 for 3 years so that XB1 can catch up.

I can't see the language barrier being an issue. It will take a long time before the Chinese speaking market has bought enough consoles to have any influence on that and even by then the English speaking market will have saturated the servers you play on.
You may run in to the occasional game but the new dedicated, localised servers combined with the numbers should balance it out.

In the UK the biggest problem I have is the occasional game with French speakers and even then it's 3am when there are very few people online. I'd imagine that in the US you'd have bigger issues with certain states that may have a high population of foreign
speakers like New Mexico.
