Xbox one switch off or freezing after changing game/app (Possible fixes for external hard ...

I noticed quite a few people are having xbox one freezing/Switching off, after changing games or apps. This might be a few things but one very common one cause of this. Is in fact the external hard drives that are powered from the console itself. It is recommended
to try using a self powered external hard drive (This hard drive enclosure can be plugged into the wall/Outlet) enclosure to stop this or Have a USB 3.0 Powered by outlet Hub.

But remember this is one way to fix this kind of error from happening, As I was informed making sure the Xbox console itself is plugged directly into the wall, not an extension cord or Outlet gang/power
strip, Might help stop the situation as well.

What appears to be happening when the external hard drive is above 2tb. It Requires a lot of power but when you change app/game before shutting the other down it requires to much power and the OS either crashes/freezes or just simply switch it self off.

Below is examples of the two types of devices you might need one of to stop this power problem. As you can see both are powered by a outlet (aka plugged in to a wall) these are the 2 type of devices you might need to stop this issue. This is a work around
for extremely high levels of storage space

Xbox one external hard drive

Is it possible for me to hook up the external hard drive for the Xbox One to the computer, burn all of my music cd collection to the hard drive and then after, hook up the external hard drive in the back of the Xbox One?

Are you running it off of the hard drive on the Xbox One or an external one? If you are playing off of the internal drive on the Xbox One then you may want to get an external for it because that is a known issue as far as the Xbox One hard drive and this
game.

 

My Xbox will sometimes turn on and not show up on the TV and when it does show off the TV if flickers on and off I looked at the HDMI port I change the cord I tried a different outlet and everything does it have something to do with

 

That sounds like it is a HDMI problem or a tv issue, I will pass you a link to that type of troubleshooter for your issue.

There you go that is the trouble shooter for that issue. There could be multiple reasons but what I am talking about here doesn't normally go round the xbox one external hard drive causing problems kind of thing.

Is your console plugged directly into the wall? Also Angelofbullets you can add that to the post you made up top that is a common issue also. The console not getting enough power thru a power strip or extension cord.

Its all working for myself, There is a few people that are having this issue. I am pointing out that this is the cause of the issue and these devices shown as examples, are the type you are needing to stop this type of issue from happening.

 

I am running a 2tb and 4tb seagate hdds through an unpowered usb hub (all usb 3.0) and encounter no issues. A lot of the time issues are caused by people using power surge protected plug boards, which conflict with the built insurge protection.

 

Another thing to consider is Insider Preview issues. There are many in the program, who don't engage with the discussions on Reddit. So are unaware of any build issues that could be causing this.

That is very true, But not all devices are the same and there could be as you said prior power surge and stuff like that. But these two are work around for those who have encountered as a example of 2 things that help (Due to trial and error actually a lot
both through a insider console and not a insider console) These are a good way to stop it happening in case you are in the insider program or not. With all the external hard drive enclosures and hard drives them self different models, speed and stuff like
that. The more space the Hard drive has the more power it requires. It seems to state round the Xbox one and xbox one S models. Very rarely heard of this issue on the xbox one X. So it might be due to multiple different things but these 2 help get around the
issue at hand

Sorry about the confusion. Due to the fact your post is about power with external HD. I was thinking you could add this to your original post. This can be helpful when users look at your post that it important to plug the console directly into the wall "
making sure the xbox console itself is plugged directly into the wall, not an extension cord or power strip. as this may cause the incorrect power if using them."
