Xbox One Surround Sound Not Working over HDMI

Hello,

I have been having an issue with surround sound over HDMI not working from my Xbox One for a while now. I purchased my console on day one and surround sound set to 5.1 uncompressed worked fine over HDMI for a long time. However a little while back it just
stopped working. Now I can only get sound out of my Xbox One if I set it to Stereo Uncompressed in the settings. I tried contacting tech support and they thought the console had gone bad. So they sent me a replacement console but the new replacement console
has the exact same issue with surround sound not working. I have tried using different HDMI cables, and I have tried using each port on the back of my receiver to see if that was the issue. However the Xbox One will not output anything other than stereo uncompressed
no matter what I tried.

I know its not my receiver because I have a PS4 and Kindle Fire TV hooked up to my receiver which all play in full surround sound without an issue. I really need a solution to this problem because playing games or watching TV and movies through my Xbox One
do not take advantage of my full surround sound anymore. I have read several other posts online about other people having this exact same issue but no one seems to have a solution to fix it. I am hoping maybe someone on here knows the magic trick to get surround
sound working over HDMI again through my Xbox One.

Dolby Digital update Xbox One, when?

The beta surround sound feature only pertains to passing through surround sound received over the Xbox One's HDMI input from (e.g.) your cable box. See

support.xbox.com/.../digital-sound-not-working

It does not enable Dolby Digital over HDMI either. As for connecting your Xbox to your TV via HDMI, setting the Xbox to output DTS (or, whenever MS finally makes it available, DD), and expecting your TV to output that DTS/DD to your receiver via optical
out: please realize that very few TVs support passing DD from an HDMI source out via the TV's optical out and even fewer (if any) will pass DTS. In most cases, you will need to connect the Xbox One's optical out directly to your receiver to get surround sound
(or, better, just get a modern receiver with HDMI inputs, which cost less than the Xbox for an entry model).

 

Can't Watch SD

Currently, the xbox one does not support digital surround sound via HDMI pass through. I believe they are working on a fix for this.

If you need surround sound, you could perhaps use a S/PDIF digital optical cable from the xbox to your surround capable receiver

 

Oh and one other thing I forgot to add, if I set the sound output to 5.1 uncompressed and hard reboot my console the initial Xbox One splash screen chime will play through my entire surround sound as expected. However after the console finishes loading up
it will no longer output sound anymore at all.

I also tried a factory reset and when it was going through the initial setup testing each speaker for output with the kinect microphone receiving the output all of my speakers were correctly tested. However after it completely finished its setup and was
ready to use all sound ceased to work again. I am really at a loss on this.

 

Similar issue here, but i can hear a crankling sound (especially with the dashboard sounds) instead of no audio.

It happens with bitstream dts and dd (stereo is ok) and it happens both with digital optical and hdmi.

I also tried my amplifier with another dts system via optical and it works good. Tried different cables too.

I have the same problem too. Noticed this since the latest update that went out.

My options are set to Bitstream HDMI Output with Dolby Digital.

XBOX1 connected to A/V by HDMI, A/V connect to TV via HDMI.

I ran a audio/video that outputs to each 5.1 speaker and the Front Left, Front Right work OK but when it comes to the Surround Left, Surround Right and Sub I get silence.

Something has definitely changed recently as it all used to work perfectly.

 

Man I got so hopeful today... My console updated, however still no sound on any surround sound setting still only getting sound on stereo uncompressed.....

 

Similar issues here, uncompressed only gives stereo output even when setting to uncompressed 5.1.. Setting to bitstream 5.1 works fine. Use to be fine until recent update
