Xbox One suddenly not able to read original Xbox and Xbox 360 discs! Help!

A lad I know had an issue like this a while back, he used this video as a workaround. Might be worth a try?

If either of these don’t help, try contacting Xbox Support

It’s very likely that you may have to replace the lens. I know the part itself isn’t expensive and if you watch some videos, I’m sure it’s also an fairly easy fix for yourself. If you wanted to take it for a repair, it shouldn’t be too costly either.

Turned on my Xbox One today to play some original Xbox and Xbox 360 disc games and all of a sudden it's unable to read ANY of them. I have about 15 backwards compatible games I had previously installed and played.

It will either give me a message asking if "I own the game" and error code 0x803F8001 or tell me to "insert the disc" so it can read the license and code 0x82d40004. In all cases, the games are legit and already inserted into the Xbox.

I have already tried suggestions of clearing the persistent storage, clearing local saved games, and power cycling the console.

BTW, It will still play my Xbox One disc games and Blu-ray movies.

Any ideas??? Please help!

I suggest to try this way:

- eject the game disc

- power cycle the console

- turn on the console

- retry

If it doesn't work, you can try with a factory reset (you can choose to keep your games and apps):

Try a DVD film disc (not a Blu-ray disc). Try a couple, if they don't work either then you've got a hardware fault.

Basically the component laser that reads DVD type discs (Xbox 360 games and DVD movie discs has failed). Unfortuntely if this is the case you'll need a repair.
