Xbox one stuck on start up for a few minutes then shuts off

In that case, your console has a hardware malfunction. You'd need to get it fixed, unfortunately. If your Xbox One is the original model, Microsoft no longer does repairs on those models. But, if you have an Xbox One S or X, you can get it fixed with Microsoft. If that's not what you desire, you can also take it to a console repair store, where they can check what's wrong with your console and possibly get it fixed, but keep in mind that this wouldn't have anything related with Microsoft.

Thanks for the advice I’ve followed all the steps listed below but still no luck. As soon as I get to the screen for a factory reset the system will shut off again.

It could be that your console is having some issues while loading the operating system. Let's check if your console has a software or hardware problem. First, follow these steps:

1. With the console on, press and hold the Xbox button on the console itself until it shuts off.

2. Unplug it from the wall for 30 seconds.

3. Connect it to wall again.

4. Turn it on.

5. Check if the console boots as it should.

If it still stays stuck on the green screen, then you need to follow these steps:

1. Unplug the network cable if you're using a wired network connection.

2. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

3. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

Note: The Xbox Series S and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition do not have Eject buttons. You can bring up the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter on this console by holding only the Pair button and then pressing the Xbox button. Disregard the Eject button for these two consoles.

4. Press and hold the Pair/Bind button and the Eject button, and then press the Xbox button on the console.

5. Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.

6. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.

If you see the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter, select Reset this Xbox, and then Reset and keep my games & apps.

After that, check if you can set up your console and it works correctly.

If you're stuck in the green screen, after rebooting from a stuck preview update, try a cold reboot. Press the Xbox logo, so the Xbox switches off, then switch off power supply. Leave it for a few minutes, then start it up. It worked for me, but stayed on
the green screen for about 10 minutes before finally starting proper. Hope that helps.

Update: Screen went black, I think Xbox auto shut off. When I turned it back on It looks as though it was starting up normally but now it's stuck on the Xbox One start up screen.
