Xbox One Strange Noise and Damage to Disk/Unable to Read Disk

I got my console in December of 2013 and It worked great up until January 2015 when the disks started making a weird grinding like noise. It would happen once the disk was entered and the drive was starting up to try and read the disk. Sometimes I will eject
it once and put it back in, sometimes I have to do it several times, and lately I've just needed to reset it and that may or may not work. I've also noticed that the inside ring of the disks where you would normally snap it back into the game case is becoming
damaged. When I looked at how to repair it I was disgusted to see that it would cost $115. Microsoft has apparently known about drive problems yet has refused to implement a recall. The only reason I'm attempting to fix this and not switch consoles or buy
a new one is simply the time that has gone into the games on this console and the price of having to get a new one. Does anyone know how to fix the problem or a person I can contact about getting this done for free like it should be. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE
SAME NOISE THAT WAS RESOLVED BY JUST HITTING THE CONSOLE. THIS ONE IS MUCH LESS VIOLENT)

Single disk wont work

I want to play steep but when i put it in it makes the noise is makes when it reads the disk but it makes a strange noise and then tries again. I have used every one of my other disks and they work fine.

 

Weird Noise

Ok so my Xbox One is making a weird noise. When there is no disc in the drive the console is making a noise like the disk drive is trying to read a disk. The noise slightly goes away when switching to different apps or settings. The noise completely
goes away when I put a game disk in the drive and play. Noise comes back after I take the disk out of the drive.

Has anyone else heard this noise at all? It did not make this noise when I setup my Xbox One for the first time.

Sorry you're having problems with you Xbox. What you're describing does sound like a hardware issue, and as its damaging discs I would definely get it serviced.

That said third party and DIY fixes are not a good idea and will be considered tampering, which completely voids your warranty, and would eliminate any repair for this in the future. Worst case something happens and your console is banned from Xbox Live
all together. So again, I highly recommend using the Microsoft service center for repairs.

 

I'm already out of warranty and have been out of warranty for some time now. I guess my question should be have there been any recalls to fix this widespread problem or is there a way they can fix their hardware problem for free

There have not been any recalls on this. This solely my option, however I think widespread is different than a more common thing that can break on the console. I personally have a few Xbox One consoles for my family all purchased within the first year of
release with no issues. You just simply don't see posts saying, my Xbox is amazing thanks Microsoft! That said it's very unfortunate that yours is having issues, and I for sure understand the frustration, and I did have a couple 360 consoles that gave out.
So as stated earlier your best bet is to pay the repair and get it serviced by Microsoft.
