Xbox One storage question

I have a 3TB external drive that I have all of my games and apps installed to. It is getting close to being full. My internal drive is empty except for the system. When my external drive is full and I attempt to download to it will it automatically switch to the internal drive to download or will I have to change my default drive to the internal drive?

In addition to 'what is that Hydro' has already correctly stated, the reason why the game and update must be on the same drive is simply down to way games are updated.

For example, if your game has an install size of 40GB and you get a 2GB update, your game
isn't necessarily now 42GB. This is because updates overwrite some the original game data. Your game could actually be smaller, it depends on what was updated. But it must be on the same drive.

All game saves are held in the cloud, not on the console as far as I'm aware, so you won't lose them. Hope this helps.

No, the updates will only go to the drive that the game is installed to. If the drive is full, the game wont update - or in worse case, will try to update, give an error & completely uninstall the game (personal experience).

I did a factory restore, it did warn me that any save game data will be lost , but it didn't and I was still mid way thru campaign on Ghosts.

you wont lose saves but you will have to redownload everything
