How come games and updates take up so much space on xbox one compared to xbox 360? Like a full game download for xbox 360 would be about 6 GB but the same game on Xbox one is around 40GB. Same thing for updates. Updates on xbox one are a couple GB sometimes
but yet on xbox 360 its only a few MB. If you're gonna give us a 500GB storage on the xbox one hard drive then why have it so a couple games takes up more than half of the space?

    :)

It's simply because the games on the xbox one are more complex with higher res textures, better AI, more detail in the world, more effects and a lot more other things that go into making the games next gen. Although I do agree they could've gave us at least
a 1TB HDD. But with external support it's not so bad.

Exactly as stated above. The Xbox One disc have much more information on them. Larger worlds, higher graphical fidelity, HD sound etc.

Games are more complex and higher resolution and textures. The media format for Xbox 1 is BLU-RAY which can easily hold even 80GB of data, easy. But with Xbox 360, it only uses DVD format for publishing retail games, which has a limited storage capacity.
Also, Xbox 360 only has 512MB of memory where as Xbox 1 has 8 gigs! of memory. So game developers can just DUMP game data around instead of figuring out clever ways to compact the data. This is also why Updates are bigger as well.

Don't forget External HDD Support is NOW available (it wasn't at Xbox 1's Launch November 22 last year). So if you're hitting 60%+ full on your Xbox 1 already, consider getting an External HDD.

A couple of games doesn not take up half the hardrive space. Stop exaggerating.

    Xbox 1 (13)

^ Forza 5. ^ Zoo Tycoon. ^ Powerstar Golf. ^BF4. ^COD Ghosts. ^ NFS Rivals. ^ Titanfall. ^ Kinect Sports Rivals. ^ Watch Dogs. ^ Project Spark Beta. ^ Tomb Raider. ^ Halo Spartan Assault. ^ Lego Marvel Super Heroes.

I also have Skype, IE, Youtube; and my Xbox 1's HDD is 68% full. Xbox 1 games ARE without a doubt, BIGGER. No game on Xbox 1 that I know of is bigger than 50GB even though if Microsoft were to publish the game to Blu-ray since M manages Xbox, Blu-ray EASILY
supports 50GB. DVD's (laugh) don't support that much data. Also Xbox 1 has 8 gigs of memory. Xbox 360 (laugh) only 512MB,
so Game developers can just DUMP game data without figuring out clever ways to compact it, which is needed due to Xbox 360's limited hardware capacity. This is why Game sizes and Updates are noticeably bigger on Xbox 1 compared to it's predecessor.
