Xbox One stopped recognizing external Hard Drive

Hi there,

I recently added Seagate's 4TB Expansion drive to my Xbox One (http://www.seagate.com/au/en/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/expansion-hard-drive/)
setup process was simple and straight forward. Xbox formatted the drive and did everything needed to make it work.

Once the setup was complete I could see the drive and transfer contents from my fixed HD to the external drive. The external drive worked fine for the first few days where I can play the games stored on that drive, but suddenly the Xbox has stopped recognizing
the drive.

What have I done so far to fix the issue:

1) Xbox restart

2) Unpowering, unplugging the drive

3) Changing the USB ports

4) Removing the drive and connected to Win10 PC to make sure the drive is not broken (The Disk Management app recognizes the drive but says it needs to format it to make it work with the PC... no I have not formatted the drive).

5) Unpowring the TV, HD, Xbox for over 5 mins to remove everything from the cache.

Still no luck

Now looking forward to this forum for some help.

Xbox one wont recognize external hard dirve

I bought a 3tb seagate external hard drive around Christmas and ive been using for 6 months now until a few days ago when my xbox stopped recognizing it

Sorry to hear it. Other than trying to reformat the drive on your pc there's not much I can recommend. Even with reformatting you could still experience the same issue as Seagate drives are known to have issues with Xbox consoles.

This has helped some. Disconnect the external drive from the One. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back
in and restart the console (DO NOT connect the external drive at this time) . Once it is back up and operational connect the external drive and test for results. Good Luck!

Perhaps your child's external hard drive is not working. Is your child's external hard drive recognized by the Xbox One? Does it turn on any lights?

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?
