Xbox One stopped detecting my external hard drive.

I've been using a 4TB WD Elements External HD for a couple of months now and it just recently stopped showing up on my console. I've tried everything on the troubleshooting page but can't get anything to work. From the looks of it a lot of others have had
problems like this but I can't seem to fix mine.

Xbox one suddenly not detecting external hard drive

Hi,

My Xbox one recently stopped detecting my external hard drive (SeaGate 2TB) after working fine for almost a year. I've tried every port and done several hard re-sets. Any advice? Please help.

I am having the same issue. All was fine till yesterday. My Xbox was totally off (I normally have it always on) as if a new update had been installed and when I booted it up again the hard drive wasn't detected. I wonder if there was an update released yesterday
and it is an issue with that? Im a bit peeved to be honest as I don't want to waste time redownloading the 400gb of programmes that were on there after a reformat if I can help it, my time is worth too much. My drive is a 2tb Toshiba usb 3.0 drive.

I have this same problem but with an xbox one. Right after the update the external hard drive wasn't being detected. Tried with a brand new drive with the same result.

Same here, a recent xbox os update broke compatibility with some external hard drives.

My seagate 5tb media drive stopped being detected by my xbox one s.

Drive checks out fine on a pc with no issues, however, xbox cannot detect the same drive.

I purchased a new 5tb WD external drive and after formatting on a pc it was not detected by xbox os also.

After 2 months of research I eventually fixed the extetnal drive not detected problem.

I used the Western Digital quick format tool to format the external drive and it finally solved the problem.

My 5tb media drive is now detected every time and the initial problem seems to be due to an xbox os update and certain partition types on extetnal hard drives.

When I added an external hard drive to my console the drive format was pretty quick.

If you have run through all of the steps listed below reference the external hard drive nor being detected and it is still not being detected then I would try to obtain a replacement external hard drive and hopefully this one should work correctly.

By stop working do you mean your Xbox can no longer read/detect the hard drives or is the installed and saved data on the hard drive corrupted?

Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.
