Xbox One stopped connecting to the internet

I have a problem with my Xbox One connecting to the internet. I bought the console 2 years ago, second hand from CEX. The console has been working fine. Then 2 days ago I was ejected from my game saying that I had been logged out of my gamer profile. I tried
to log back in but to no avail, so I left it. Yesterday I tried again, but still could not log in to my gamer profile. I also realised that I cannot use Netflix or Youtube on the Xbox. I tried several solutions, including - hard resetting the console multiple
times, switching my router off and on, resetting my router, changing the xbox's DNS settings to manual 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 (which didn't work). I also plugged an ethernet cable directly into the console, which the xbox didn't recognise. So I assumed the network
card had broken.

Today, I tool the console for an examination at CEX under their 24 month warranty. However, the staff there said they had connected to the wireless internet without any problems. I brought the console home, and tried it myself. For a few hours it connected
to my wireless network and worked. It even installed an update. I then tried it again later, but the problem had returned, and it could not connect to the internet. After messing around some more (getting various DNS problem messages), it has finally connected
to my wireless internet again. But now it is ridiculously slow when downloading content - taking minutes to begin a show on Netfilx, and with horrible pixelated quality.

Can anyone explain what is happening with this and what I can do to fix it? All my other devices are connected fine with my wireless internet, and I haven't changed anything. The Xbox One was working without any problems until just 2 days ago. Any help?

Why can't I play my X1 offline?

Yes, but you'd still have to put the info in to connect to the wireless router, it doesn't just connect on its own. The system has to be receiving an internet connection in order to do an update, let alone know it needs one. Sounds to me that OP had it connected to the internet, started an update, unplugged the console from the internet, but didn't actually stop the update.

 

Several consoles through the same router

Hmm - not sure about that. I know for a fact though that may put strain on the router and give you a crappy internet connection. I doubt there is any setting in the Xbox that stops you from doing that though.

 

There could be an issue with your modem or router. I would reset anything conected with them . And check your firewall setting . Contact you internet provider and see if they cant walk you through a port forward and change firewall settings

 

Is it possible that there is something on your ISP side?

If the console was able to connect using another location's connection I would contacth your ISP to see if they are blocking it or it's causing issues somehow.

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about the issue with the network connectivity on the Xbox.

Check out this troubleshooting article:

Now the issue sounds like
its the network connectivity on the console. I recommend to
create a static IP for the console,
and port forwarding on the network
configuration settings for a better connection.

Try this out and let us know the results.

 

Try reconnect your modem and then
try clearing cache. Put your finger on the start button of the console for 10 seconds until it goes out.
Then wait another 30 and turn it on again.
After trying this, reinstall the game.
It may work for you .

Since I posted, the issue seems to have resolved itself. I can now connect to the wireless internet without problem, and the quality of Youtube and Netflix has returned to normal.

One possibility could have been my ISP - but then all my other devices have been connecting to the internet without any problem.

The other thing I noticed is that the Xbox downloaded a 74gb November 2018 update for the game 'Halo: Master Chief Collection'. Perhaps this was causing the issue, as after downloading this update (which took all day), the problem connecting to the internet
has gone.

 

Hello Shake,

When this occurs, a soft factory reset may be attempted as this usually concerns with the console not fully
recognizing the connection to the network, or may be stuck in trying to route through a firewall.

The reset would allow the console to perform maintenance and fully restart the console in an attempt to gain this connection again.

When doing this, remember that this step will remove profiles so be sure to keep all information for signing into any/all accounts.

I will leave you with this and hope that you don't come across any other discrepancies.

I'd recommend to contact your ISP or use port forwarding if you can.

 

Also, is it possible you can connect via Ethernet cable?
