    Xbox one still powers off unexpectedly after fixes


    Hey guys. Got an Xbox one from gamestop a little over a year ago. Periodically it would unexpectedly shut down on me. Figured it was overheating so I'd leave a fan blowing on it and it seemed to work for awhile. Over time though it has happened more and
    more frequently. Especially since I have been putting alot of hours into the new COD.

    I cleaned the old crud off the CPU and heatsink and replaced with a pea sized drop of Arctic white tri- linear Ceramyic (I've used this in laptops). To my surprise there was no dust or real dry paste in there to start but I figured I'd replace it while it
    was open.

    10 minutes after having it on and playing again it turned off on me and was continuously turning off with no warning or message after maybe 2 games just as it was before. I repeatedly hear the "Ping" sound that the xbox makes when you power it on/off. It
    also makes that sound through the night even though the xbox doesnt turn on. So I thought maybe the front ribbon was damaged and misfiring.

    Today I installed a brand new ribbon and also one of those 2 speed fans that go over the intake and replace the left side grill... again the xbox is powering off.

    I have also replaced the power brick and cords with a completely new one and have changed outlets its plugged into with no luck. I have put the xbox in different locations and both horizontal and vertical with no changes. It is on it's own shelf and has
    plenty of ventilation. Some days I can play for 4 hours before it starts turning off and other days it will start turning off after 20 minutes. I have not found a common denominator but as follows i have crossed off all of the most common issues.

    As stated ..

    -CPU and heatsink clean and new thermal paste

    -New power brick and cord in new outlets

    -new front ribbon cable and power button cleaned

    -upgraded fans for intake

    - I've changed between power saving mode, easy on, storage on/off options with no luck

    - I've changed the setting so that the xbox doesn't turn off due to inactivity

    -hard reset multiple times during this process and the xbox is up to date

    I have covered all of the bases and are starting to wonder if my Toshiba 3.0 1TB external hardrive, or powered controller could be a culprit of causing some kind of issue?

    Why would I occasionally hear the powering on/off pinging sound randomly as if it was being powered off by itself if overheating and bad power supply have been ruled out? Virtually all of the bases have been covered and the only other things I have found
    in the forums are that the xbox ones seem to act weird with external hard drives?

    Any other technical guys on here have any ideas? I'm running out of ideas and have already handled all of the common troubleshooting.

    Sorry to hear you're experiencing crashes. Let's have you check out this troubleshooting article for the

    Xbox One turning off unexpectedly     if you haven't already, as well as
    power cycling     your Xbox One.

    Please let us know how it goes after following those steps from the article and if you're still seeing issues!

    Hi

    The first thing to check will be that your console has
    adequate ventilation     and that it is also that the power cable is connected directly to the wall outlet. If after this the console is still switching off unexpectedly please follow this
    support guide     to hopefully find the reason for the console shutting down.

    Hey there Victor,

    Are you stating that the console is unexpectedly turning off once you power it on? If not can you please clarify what you mean when you are stating that the console is hanging up a few seconds after you call it?

    If the console is unexpectedly shutting off go ahead and follow the troubleshooting on the support article that is linked below.

    Hi Metalgerm,

    See the link below to troubleshoot the Xbox turning off unexpectedly. Also one other thing to note is power. If your Xbox is plugged into a power strip, unplug it from this and plug it directly into the wall. Plugging it into the wall is best practice and
    resolves a lot of power issues.
