I don't believe you can update with U.S.B.. They link given earlier in this thread was

support.xbox.com/.../offline-system-update-diagnostic-tool which I believe can't be used for "Updating" as this is a blurb from said page,"Important:

This process is designed for troubleshooting use only. If you are updating your system for the first time, you will still need to connect to the Xbox Live service.".

Now maybe you can update from this? When I finally win a broken X1 of ebay for a cheap price...then I'll doodle around with one. ;-)

The first power-up tone will occur approximately 10 seconds after powering up. This indicates that a USB update has been detected. The second power-up tone indicates that the update file has been copied and mounted. This is important, as it confirms you
have a compatible Xbox One system update based on your current build. This informs the system which build is currently installed on the console, and whether the update is compatible with that build

 

If you use the USB tool, you still have to connect your console online. So if im a place without a connection, its worthless.

 

Step 3 in the article says that after you download the tool and put it on the USB drive from the PC, you have to disconnect your X1 from the network, run the update and done.

In hindsight though, I wonder if you have to do the updates in order, or if you can skip to the last one... I may have missed this, but have you called MS support? Maybe they will send you the updates on a drive.

 

I'm not saying your wrong, but the wording is strange. It leads me to believe it's a diagnostic that only works with the build that is already in the X1. Any newer build would override the previous would it not? Makes me think that it's more of a repair
for a build your console already has. It would be a neat feature for those that can't get online. Anyone here in the forums try it?

The original X Box was a piece of cake to mod, and there were many sites that sold chips, etc., to do so; and you could always get online with them. Certain models of the 360 were a cake walk, then it became a chore; sites that were selling chips were quickly
gone because of Microsoft's "software" upgrades. I'm sure someone will find something shady to do with the X1, though believe M.S. has it loaded with deterrents; I don't think there will be a lot of people to invest the time for the "little to no" payoff...I

Hackers/cheaters are why I quit playing on the P.C.; it just wasn't fun playing Unreal Tournament with EVERYONE in "God Mode". Lol.

I agree it is worded strangely, and I'm only assuming since I haven't had to do it myself, or know anyone that has had to do it, but the last step does say that after the X1 restarts, it will be updated, and that seems like a huge download for just a diagnostic.
Safest bet is to call support and confirm.

 

@D33dles, I agree with you there, PC I didn't mind but a paid service like PSN and XbL,Hackers/cheaters are totally not welcome. Original XB was cake for sure, mine was mutli regional within about 30 minutes. However, I didn't enable back ups and was never
online since it cost money and seemed ridiculous when I could play online for free on PC. Come to think of it, would it be safe to say that MS ruined everything that was fun about modding with a paid service which was really just P2P? Is it safe to say that
the end of the cheat disc Gameshark/Action replay was due to MS with the 1st paid service? Hmmmmm, food for thought,,,,,,,,,

 

OP your just trolling now, your console is not bricked because it won't play one game, it plays all the games that were released up until recently.

This is not drm it's an update, just as Microsoft does automatic updates to its OS for years and years.

Which part of 'update' even sounds like Digital Rights Management, which is there to prevent piracy?
