Xbox One still has DRM.

The OP is in the military and from his second post probably in some third world country. Coffee shops, libraries probably aren't an option and definitely not a Best Buy.

They will, this is the reason why Xbox One has a guideline, DRM is not forced, upon the publishers, the publishers can decide if they want to do that, and when they do they dont have to put their own DRM since xbox has a DRM.

But PS4 doesnt have a built in DRM which means EA or another company will have to impose a third party DRM. Xbox One makes it easier for publishers to put DRM

If ea has a restrictive DRM it will be more restrictive on PS4 than Xbox One, Why? Because Xbox One has the architecture, and PS4 doesnt, therefore they have to push a Drm and Used game solution even furthur on PS4 than xbox

 

Ok I can agree that they should update their site but seriously! June 2013 that was put up!

 

@Rand in this day an age, I would be surprised if he couldn't find some type of Internet access in a third world country.

Especially being in the military.

When you're in the US military you don't go wandering around 3rd world countries looking for internet access, not being able to play SO could very quickly become the least of your problems.

 

@ Rand I spent 14 years in the Army.

I know the do's and don'ts of being in a unit. There are places in a third world countries that have Internet access believe me.

You have to be careful no matter the loco.

 

Regarding DRM:

Regarding the updates not being on the disc. I think that's a perfectly fair question. Sorry to hear you purchased a game and are not able to play it.

Try contacting microsoft, perhaps they can send you a disk or USB key with the update on it.

 

This rubbish about Milirary bases not having internet didn't fly at launch and certainly doesn't fly now.

 

Because the Xbox 360 did it.

 

If the 360 jumped off a cliff, should Xbox One do so also?...different consoles. I would bet, that if you were to buy all three current gen consoles day one, update them over the internet on that first day, then store them in a closet (no internet) for a
year or two....then bought a brand new game (after two years lets say) and tried to play it without hooking it up to the internet...this exact same situation would occur with all three consoles. All these consoles are designed to be updated regularly. Just
found out shareplay is up to the dev/pub to enable and allow based on their individual decision. If a console had only the day one update and was never hooked up to the internet again (for two years), how would it be able to process any of those changes/upgrades
that happened with the 2.0 upgrade and any of the others?

Maybe the 360 had the updates on discs because the update period was stable and spread out....currently the One is being updated continuously, no way to keep up with the changes....at least for now, maybe they will grow to be updated after a longer period
of time (say 3-6 months).

 

And as I always reply. "that would depend on why they are jumping off the cliff."

It really isn't an unfair expectation for people to think the One would have the same features and abilities as its predecessor.

 

So after all this pointless arguing, In true "How dare you bad mouth MS" , Would logic not suggest to add updates to the disc so that offline people could play? Say what you want but developers know which update/firmware they need for their games during
development which means it's obviously going to work on the next update or 10. Well Duh

 

I am not arguing against "whether there should be updates on the game disc or not"...my beef all along is the sensationalist title and ill usage of terms. OP claims his console is "bricked" but then later states that it won't play sunset overdrive, while
other functions are available....which is it? Bricking means the console will absolutely do nothing. And I am sorry, but nothing going on here is DRM, some people need to learn what DRM is. The very fact that the title of the thread says "still" implies that
everything has been DRM'd from day one, which is not even remotely true.

 

The post was likely made in the heat of annoyance, people do get to hyperbole in the heat of the moment.

However that doesn't mean that the OP is wrong. What he is experiencing is as close to DRM as to be indistinguishable from it.
