Xbox One Stereo Headset Mic Stopped Working After Newest Update

    Hey again!

Thanks for the information on this. Just to narrow this down further, is it possible to test your controller/headset on a different console to see if there is any difference in performance? It may also be worth trying your Xbox One on a different network,
that can help us narrow this down as either a hardware or network issue. Thanks!

    Mister Maka,

I have bought a new headset and controller, as I stated before, and I have seen no changes at all. The controllers work fine, and I used the headset while calling someone, and the mic worked then. I also tried it on someone else's network (and a much better
one), and it still didn't work. I think it's a hardware issue, because everything else hasn't worked, so I believe it's localized to my Xbox, which the mic suddenly stopped working after the Cortana update.

Xbox One Stereo Headset Mic Stopped Working After Newest Update

    Hello everybody,

I guess it's my turn in the barrel. I had this problem pop up a couple of weeks ago as well. I was playing Destiny, in a party w/a friend, and we got booted from the server. When we came back in, I could hear him clearly, but he couldn't hear me at all.
We left the game, rebooted (game and system), hard reboot, checked the settings, etc. The mic icon lights up, but no signal gets through. I've gone through the other threads on this topic, dating back to 2014, and tried all of the solutions there. No joy.
In fact, most of those threads have been locked even though people are still posting to them and they are unanswered.

    Here's the kicker:

I can be signed in to my profile, in a party, and can hear the other player. He can't hear me. We can sign my son in to his profile (leaving me signed in), he can join the same party, and the rest of the party can hear him absolutely fine. We switch back
to my profile and I can hear, but not be heard. I checked the profile settings (privacy, etc.) for both of our profiles, and they're the same, as well.

Can somebody maybe try setting up a child account on their live account and see if their mic works with that account (which would be the same situation I'm in now). Obviously my thinking is that somehow it's a profile issue (can they get corrupted?).

    Please help-this is beyond frustrating!

    Bueller1203,

It's SUPER frustrating. I'm on my fourth call/chat with support. Xbox One Stereo Headset Mic Stopped Working After Newest Update :( I think profiles can get corrupted. You might try deleting it, and then re-downloading it? I googled it and found this,

    forums.xbox.com/.../269021.aspx
. Maybe that'll help? I don't know if it has anything to do with your mic, but it might be worth a try.

Hey Khaleesi Emi & Chico de Boxer,

Could you try the work around bueller1203 suggested? I'll quote their suggestion below:

I understand that's a pretty specific scenario, and it's by no means a suggested solution, but if you guys get similar results that will help us out a lot! You can create an Xbox Live Silver account for free, just be sure to leave your main account signed
    in as bueller1203 suggested.

@bueller1203, just to quickly clarify, can your son's account chat in party just fine when your account isn't signed in? Are you using the same controller and headset?

  8. Xbox One Stereo Headset Mic Stopped Working After Newest Update

Already done that and still the same problem. What I was thinking, before I got this problem my wireless controller battery was low so I hooked it up on the usb cable to recharge. Could that caused it? Also when I check the controller settings you should
be able to adjust volume of the mic but that part is grey/inactive so I can't click on that. Although the controller works fine I might try a new one...

  9. Just bought a new controller and it still doesnt work aaaaaarrgghh. Even did a reset but nope. Hè doesnt seem to track my mic in any way. Hè sees my headset in de toprightcorner but when I start a party and switch to gamechat, there is no activity and when
I switch back to gamechat it says that it cannot find a microphone for these players and that message disappears again after 1 second.

I am a 100% sure of it that this is a system error but of what kind? Did it came with one of your updates maybe? ITS also not profiel related coz it doesnt work on any profile and I have acces to 3 different ones, one new one I made yesterday..

The only thing I havent checked is to set it to factory settings without keeping THE games and apps but I am not going to do that because I cannot lose any achievements or history of these profiles

I have a USB charging cord that I use, and the light on it doesn't work, but I've tried it with and without batteries, and I saw no change. I also bought another controller, and that didn't change anything, either. Would the work around fix the problem,
though? Either way, there's an issue, and working around it isn't going to solve it... I need my profile, because it has everything, and I'm not willing to give all of that up just because my mic stopped working after the Cortana update. I'll also mention
that while I can't use my Xbox Live (there's no point, if you can't talk to anyone), I'm still paying for it, because I need to keep checking if this mic works.

Chico de Boxer, that same thing is happening to me. It registers that I have a headset and a mic, and the little picture of it appears in the corner of the party chat, but the circle around my profile pic isn't showing up when I talk. How would it register
that I have a mic, and then not use the mic? It doesn't make sense to me.

It's also started cutting in and out recently, as well. My friends will hear random static when I'm not messing with the mic. They'll randomly hear me talk, and then it'll go out after a couple seconds. And once, my headphones cut out, and I couldn't hear
ANYTHING, and then they could suddenly hear me? And when I unplugged my headset and put it back in, I could hear, and then they couldn't hear me.

I have NO idea what's going on, and it's REALLY frustrating.

Just found out that the chat headset does work so I am afraid I will have to use that one until there finally will rise a smart person at MS for a solution with the stereo headset

    Mr. Beep,

Yes, my son could chat on his account regardless of whether I was signed in or not (tried both), using the same headset and controller. We swapped out both the headset and controllers, and tried multiple combinations of headset/controller. Same results.
Came back two days later, and both of us now get the same dead mic issue. If we adjust the usb cable to the controller a little bit, sometimes our party can hear us faintly, but they get a lot of static and echo. It's weird. Both sets of headphones are Turtle
Beaches (different models), both using the XBox One adapter. He claims his Tritons work fine though (I haven't tried yet).

I'm using the Kinect mic to get the chat out. This is nuts.

    Khaleesi Emi,

Looks like I misread that the ring around your profile does not light up while in a party chat, instead of it lighting up and still not being heard.

Do you have a nearby friend or family member who owns an Xbox One console that you can try your Xbox One Controller + Stereo Headset + Stereo Headset Adapter on (I even recommend bringing your Xbox One console to test on a different network to rule everything
out if possible)? Additionally, do you happen to have an Xbox One Chat Headset on hand to test if you can be heard? I want to make sure we have all the necessary details.

    Chico de Boxer,

If your chat headset works, but your Stereo Headset does not, that would indicate you need to repair/replace your Xbox One Stereo Headset. You can start that process over at our
Online Service Center. If you continue to experience any issues after a repair/replacement, please be sure to post a new thread letting us know as the issue described seems to be a little different.

    bueller1203,

Thanks for the information, the next step I recommend is trying your son's Triton headset to see what those results are. After that, I do recommend creating a new thread as it does seem the issue you're facing is a little different than Khaleesi's. While
the result does looks the same, the details leading to that result are different.

    To everyone else,

Try out each of the troubleshooting steps provided in this thread, and if the issue persists, please be sure to post a new thread detailing the issue. That way we can focus in on the issue Khaleesi Emi is experiencing. As mentioned above, while the
results look very similar, the details leading to that result look to be different. Plus that way the community here can assist directly with you. Be sure to include the steps you have tried in your post to avoid any repeated troubleshooting steps!

Thanks for understanding everyone, and your patience is definitely appreciated.
