    Xbox One starts by itself

    I've had my Xbox for a while now and noticed it's turning on by itself. I figured at first it was the automatic updates so I turned them off and set the Xbox to power down when I do so on the controller. I woke up a few weeks ago to my friends sending me
    messages while I'm asleep asking me if I was on. I thought this was odd so after chatting with them it seems that I was logged in (I have a pass code for this to happen on my Xbox).

    I did some research and found others having the same issues and will be completing the following steps the afternoon...

    1. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds

    2. Unplug the xbox ~2 min (all cables)

    3. Restart and see if it happens again

    Hey there, Lee!

    I'm sorry to see any spooky power issues! We have seen a few reports of this, however I can assure you that you haven't been hacked. ;) It's likely a couple of things, so let's go over those together.

    First, it could be a dirty power button issue. Both of these troubleshooting steps require the console to be unplugged. For the original Xbox One, you will want to clean the touch capacitor with a damp towel. For an Xbox One S, you can still do the same,
    but also use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol on it to clean the sides.

    Second, it could be related to settings or the operating system being a little off. If you have the console set to Instant on, change it to

    Energy saving mode    . Instant on does background updates while off, so it may be doing the chime when installing an update when it shouldn't be and Energy saving mode will help determine that. If that doesn't help,

    factory reset     the console. Do a full reset, because the operating system may be at fault.

    Let me know how it goes! It will likely need to be repaired if that doesn't work out for you, but I'm happy to address any further concerns if you have them!

    Hey AngeLucasPisse! Is the console plugged in directly to the wall or to a power strip? Do you have your console set to Instant-On or Energy Saver mode? Additionally, do you have the console set to update automatically? Post back and let us know!

    Games that start on the Xbox One show a splash screen.

    Any progress bars you see are already from the started game, and hint at issues with the game itself, not the console.

    What game did you start that is showing the progress bar?

    Have you tried other games. I know my disk reader on my day one edition Xbox one started acting up. Might be the reader itself. That's a big part of why i started going to digital games.
