    Xbox One starting on its own!


    Hi all,

    for some days now, my Xbox One randomly turns itself on, sometimes even at night when I don't notice. My TV recognizes the Xbox and will thus turn on as well. I am kinda helpless because I do not have the slightest clue why this is happening.

    I can't just pull the plug and put it in the socket when needed, since it is behind the furniture.

    Really hoping to find a solution..

    XBOX not completely shutting down/starting on its own.

    Ok, try unplugging EVERYTHING from the console. (harddrive, power cord, any USB devices) and then hold the power button for about 5 seconds after unplugging everything, to discharge any stored power. Also, go head and unplug your power cord from the wall
    as well. Then plug everything back in after about 1 minute and then see if you are still having this problem.

    XBOX not completely shutting down/starting on its own.

    Since I downloaded the new xbox live dashboard update this morning, I have turned my xbox off a total of 4 times. All 4 times, pushing the power button/using my controller to turn off the console would bring my TV back to the input screen like the console
    is off. Yet it would still make the sounds inside like it's still working for a good 10-15 seconds. In 2 of the cases, after said 10-15 seconds, the console would start right back up on its own.

    So..... :/

    Is your Xbox connected to a surge protector or a power strip? If so, that is usually the most common reason for the console randomly turning on. Connect the Xbox power directly to the wall outlet.

    The Xbox One has its own surge protection built into the power supply, and connecting it behind another power strip or surge protector can cause electrical "hiccups" that cause it to start on its own.

    It's possible the power button is malfunctioning. Is this an original Xbox One console or an Xbox One S model? The original model had a touch sensor to turn on the power button and I'm wondering if it's dirty/dusty. Or it could be just plain old malfunctioning.
    If it's an original model, try to clean it with a soft dry cloth and remove any fingerprints to see if that helps.

    Thanks for your reply! Its an originial Xbox One with the touch button. I will try to clean it. Hopefully it will help.

    The issue has been resolved. I disabled all updates since the console was starting on its own to check if there were some available.

    I am very sorry to know you are having such conveniences. Please do not worry about the situation because I am here to help you out!

    According to the explanation you have provided, I believe your console might need a system refresh. Therefore, you will only need to follow those simple troubleshooting steps that I will provide you with and your issue should be fixed.

    If the issue still persists after going through the troubleshooting steps mentioned, I invite you to perform a quick power cycle by turning off the console and then unplugging all the cables. After 10-15 seconds plug all your cables back in and then restart your console.

    In case the issue still persists, the next step would be to perform a reset on the console. To do so you will need to follow the steps below to perform a reset on the Xbox :

    Settings > System > Console Info > Reset This Xbox > Reset and Keep my Games and Apps.

    Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.
