Xbox One Smartglass vs iPhone 5

I have just spent over an hour with Xbox customer service on the phone and another 30 online chatting with an Xbox customer support agent. The conclusion of both conversations was to post here and have you guys come up with some sort of a solution.

I have an Xbox One, an iPhone 5 with iOS 7,1,1 (11D201), a Netgear N300 wireless router WNR2000 v2, and a Cisco modem number: 244051186.

I have reset modem, network, and xbox. unplugged all for 30 seconds to rest. Turned off data on my phone to make sure I am using only wifi, checked that the subnet on both Xbox One and iPhone. I'm sure I'm forgetting other things, I just want this to work.

Xbox smartglass won't sign in at all on ipad2 but on my iPhone 5 works fine please fix

 

Xbox one smartglass and IOS

So I have the xbox one smartglass app on my iPhone 5 and whenever I try to connect withy xbox, it doesn't find it even though they are on the same network. I have retried for days now and it's simply frustrating. Also, when using the smartglass app on
my laptop, it works perfectly fine so I would like to know why it isn't working on my iPhone 5 and what is being done about it. Thanks

 

I found that it was really finicky when Xbox was operating on Wifi. Sometimes I could make the connection and other times I couldn't. I have since plugged the Xbox directly in using an ethernet cable and I've never had a problem connecting any device (iPhone
5 iOS 7.1.1, iPad 2. iPhone 4 that belongs to my roommate and my laptop). You may want to try that.

Other than that I'm sure you've tried the obvious: ensuring you have the Xbox one App and not 360, power cycling both devices (yes, I know.. rarely works but.. worth a shot), making sure you have Smartglass allowed in your Xbox settings, ensuring that you
have both devices on the same network, and trying to manually input the IP address of the Xbox into your iPhone.....

 

Trying it hard wired is the only thing I haven't tried. I may give it a shot this afternoon after work. That's sounds like a simple solution that xbox support should have.... Just saying, it's their app and their console...

 

I don't disagree but to be fair I always have a hard time getting Apple devices to play nicely with others. My Google & Microsoft devices/software can work in tandem just fine. Apple doesn't want to play nice. LOL.

 

So I tried hard wiring it. Still not working... I was extremely hopeful...

 

That is weird that we are using the same OS and the same setup for our XBOX and yours won't work. You can see the XBOX in Smartglass, you just can't connect.. right?

What is the exact issues your having with the SmartGlass app as you haven't really said?

 

My app isn't finding my console even when I enter the IP address. I can't see the console from the app and I've done everything to make it work.

 

- Check that the correct version of SmartGlass installed on your iPhone 5 as there is two versions available - Xbox One SmartGlass

- Sign into both SmartGlass and the Xbox One using the same Windows passport (Gamertag) credentials.

- Check that your Xbox One allows SmartGlass connections

1. Press the Xbox button to return to Home.
2. Press the Menu button, and then select Settings.
3. In the Console settings column, select Preferences.
4. Under SmartGlass Connections select From any SmartGlass device.
   
   

 

Also try the following:

1. Delete the Smartglass app on your iOS device.
2. On your Xbox One go to Settings > System
3. Change the System Name. The console will then restart after confirming.
   
4. Download and install the Xbox One Smartglass app on your iOS device.
5. Sign into the Xbox One under your Gamertag.
6. Sign into the Smartglass app under your Gamertag credentials.

Also I changed the name and deleted the app, that also didn't work. I'm manually entering the IP address of the console which changes everytime I hard reset my console. My phone still doesn't see an xbox on the network, or so it says

 

I tried to change the name again and deleting the app again. Still nothing... I though Xbox was supposed to help me figure this out? Or are you 2 from xbox?

 

I'm not from XBOX but I had an issue when first trying to set mine up so I was just trying to help. There is a Smartglass update coming so maybe that will fix the issue. It is weird that your phone doesn't even see the Xbox on the network. With me, I could
see it, but had trouble connecting (which is why I just plugged the Xbox directly into the router).

Do you have a Windows 8 computer you can download the app on to see if it works from there? I'm wondering if it's a setting on your phone that needs to be switched.
