Xbox One shuts down when I turn my TV off

I am having a problem with my xbox one. I am trying to download an update overnight, however when I turn my smart tv off the Xbox one shuts down. This is really annoying as I do not want to have to keep my tv on all night just so the update downloads,
and I will be at school during the day so I don't want to leave the tv on all day. If someone can answer thanks in advance.

Help with HDMI Control

TV's can auto detect if a port stops being used and shut down, my TV i have will shut itself down if i have a pc connected to it and i shut the pc down. This might be on your tv, look for settings about connections and shutting down.

Xbox doesn't turn your tv off like that, when it turns the system on for instance it does it with kinnect doing a spectrum spread that is basically bombarding the room so it hits the tv.

Xbox One will turn on TV/Receiver but won't shut off TV/Receiver

When I turn on my Xbox One it'll automatically turn on my TV and receiver. The only problem is that when I shut off my Xbox One it won't shut off either. Those I have to do separate. Is there a way to fix this? Nate

I'm pretty sure if you've your console configured for Instant On it'll download game updates in the background, even in its standby state. I can't remember the last time I actually saw my console downloading an update for anything that wasn't the console
itself.

Thanks for the fast reply. But my console doesn't seem to download when it's powered down, because I'll turn it on in the morning and it will be at the same percent as when I had turned it off the previous night. And I know that my internet connection is
not that great (average 60 kb/s) however if I leave the Xbox on I will see after a couple of hours that it does I fact update.

This could be due to your kinect, you can change this in settings.

Or this might sound dumb. Is your xbox connected to a power saver powerboard where everything shuts off completely when the TV is turned off?? Alternatively yeah... Probably something in your settings like the other guys said. Instant on and auto download....

I spoke too soon. When I hold the power button down to shut off the xbox, the next time it's turned on, it turns on the TV. Then the next time after that I turn on the Xbox, it doesn't turn on the TV. It seems the only time after the Spring 2017 update
the Xbox turns on a TV is after it's shut off holding the power button.

Looks like I'm not the only one after looking at the message boards :/
