Xbox One should not require MS account to play disk based games

Just bought new Xbox One and Master Chief Collection.

Setup is painful. Didn't recognize wired network connection and suggested using WiFi. Used WiFi and it complained about having to disconnect wired network connection which it didn't previously recognize.

Gave up waiting for Masterchief update download and went out. The interface is terrible, gives no indication as to how much/how long. Googled it and many people experienced several hours, so like come back tomorrow and play?

You have to create an account to play Halo-2 as it requires you to sign in. They want name, mobile phone, date of birth. Not happy at all providing private information to play a game off disk. Xbox-360 did not require you to sign to play. Why has this changed?

They provide 3 very lengthy documents (100+ pages) covering terms of usage, privacy (which isn't worth the paper its written on) etc. Reading these quickly and probably missing most of the important details took 1hr+.

Haven't actually played a game yet after 6hrs of setup. Considering returning XBOX saying I don't accept terms and conditions and want my money back.

    :)

    Family Sharing was "as advertised"

I do think MS will be able to do this with digital games eventually. I think it was just too much coding change to do it time for launch. Disk-based games will obviously require online checkins to enable the sharing feature.

    Can't play GTA 5???

As a Gold Member, You should have no issues downloading the update.......

Correction----- You may need a Hard Drive.

With at least 180 GS in this game, I must ask, are you using the correct disk? The single player disk (1) should work fine even if not connected to the internet with a silver account.......

The Multiplayer disk (2) may require an update...

    GOOD LUCK!!!

The reason you need to give a Microsoft account is so your game progress can be saved to that account and wherever you access that account of yours you can access the save data.

For the personal info as phone number etc... It needs it for security reasons, should you lose your account you can recover it by either your phone or if you would also lose your phone you could contact Microsoft/Xbox support and through verifying the entered
information they can reset your password.

  5. In short DRM , what they tryed at the start until every one went crazy . thats why saves are lost every day by people because the cloud is a joke and not reliable enough to run in full force yet . Just let us keep a dam copy of are save on are console .
Even my vita lets me chosse if i want to keep a save on my handheld or just the server or both , the option of both should be mandatory as those losers lizard squad have proven with there attacks and messing up us playing sp games on christmas because we could
not get to our saves .

Saves on the Xbox One are saved locally and on the cloud at the same time or it will update the cloud after your console has been put into standby mode.

Also during the downtime of Xbox Live if you go to your network settings and select "Go Offline" you can choose to use your local gamesave instead of the cloud

Ok, haven't played Xbox for a while, couple of months maybe. Fired it up. 30 minutes for halo updates, then it asked to me to sign in. No idea what password was. Go to PC, go thru password reset procedure. Over 45 minutes later, totally *** off. If you have
the disk YOU SHOULD NOT NEED AN ONLINE ACCOUNT TO PLAY. Period. End of story. Your process is totally geared to regs. XBOX one is not a console for occasional players like myself. I would sell it and go back to the 360, but my son plays it.

I play campaign, so the progress could easily be stored locally, as it was on the 360. I don't 'pay' online for any x-box features, so again it doesn't need to be online.

  10. You don't need to be online if you change your Xbox network settings to "offline" you do however still need to have signed into an account so it can link the savegame to it

Tried to play a file from USB. Remember the concept of the 360 being a media centre. Well I guess that go thrown out with the xbox-one. After hours of *** around, crap help on line from MS, other people looking at it, we finally finally figured you need
to download an app to play media from USB (which is conveniently located on the back of the box so you have to pull the whole thing out to plug something into it). You have to be kidding. This has to be the most user-unfriendly console of all time. Get the
guy who designed the 360 back. Gave up and came back a few weeks later to try play halo again. That was a mistake. 2 Gigabyte non-optional download. Won't let me play the game. I really wish I'd never bought this POS. Percentage of time trying to sign in (for
non-frequent player), updates, dealing with terrible UI. Given up again. If it wasn't for halo, I would trade the xbox for a PS in the blink of eye.
