    Xbox One Shmups??

@ Mellor: Yes, the Cave games are all awesome. Futari is my fave. I'd like to see next-gen shmups, that's all. 5pb has also made shooters in the past, I'd like to see more from them as well.

@Randver: Great point. Unfortunately, it's too early to tell how things will sway. It seems like Sony really brushed off shmups on the PS3, deliberately. The 360 scooped them up, to my delight. This gen, I'm just trying to give myself an excuse to buy
an XBox One right now. (I'm sold already, just want some shmup love, that's all.)

@ben, what does tons mean? if there is 1000 you tubers for just shmups, what would they retail for £20 on a good day. thats £20,000, thats not even enough money for one developer for a year.

COD ghost extinction had a really good following, less than 30 days till the new one and theres less than 200 people playing it on the xbox one, and that had a really good following and endless you tube videos.

A you tube presence doesn't mean theres a market for something.

@Enen: No, no.. That's not what I mean. My intent was to convey that there are millions of shmup fans out there, myself included. There are some hardcore players, who only collect/play those types of games. Some shmups require expert mastery, and some
love that particular challenge. Also, shmup fans are almost always willing to pay good money for those games, especially the more collectible and exclusive titles. It's a different fanbase, not at all like the FPS scene. This is more of a generational thing
    I guess.

But how have you evaluated the "millions"?

Also don't forget there are billions of dog lovers, but what is the percentage that own dogs? Not everyone will put there hand in their pockets.

Also are you just after new indie games of a shoot em up genre or are you wanting old games ported? if the later why not the former?

@Enen: On your first post, shmupers will dig into their pockets for great games, that is a given.

On your second post, I'd like to see all-new games, all new indie games, re-releases, re-mastered versions, whatever keeps the shmup genre alive. In particular, I want to see new franchises come out, harnessing the XBox One's power. I want to see what
new things can be done with the genre altogether. New shading techniques, 3-D effects, new rendering styles, cell-shading, whatever. I'd like to hear new, better soundtracks, and audio effects. I'm sure devs have a few tricks up their sleeves that can showcase
    the new hardware.

@Ben unfortunately either developers don't share your confidence, or shmups have evolved and you preference hasn't (according to Wiki space invades is a shmup, some might argue Destiny is a current one).

Shmups? Never heard of that before (or any of the examples that were given). Could you be more specific on the type of gameplay so I have a better understanding of what you're referring to? I'm fairly knowledgeable about most Xbox games and can probably
find something similar for you, but only if I have a better idea of what you're talking about, ben.

@Enen: I disagree. Like I said earlier, there's more than enough room for shmups in any console or PC game lineup. There needs to be variety all-around.

Secondly, I have many preferences, not just old-school shooters. I'll play Radiant Silvergun for a while, then follow that with Skyrim or Mass Effect. My tastes are not static, but always changing, like any dedicated gamer. We all have our likes/dislikes.
As for Destiny, I wouldn't call that a shooter. That's a First-Person Shooter. You're comparing apples to oranges...

Why can't a FPS not be a shoot em up, are you calling Skyrim a shoot em up?

    @ Galactic Geek:

"Shmups," as in R-Type style games. Examples are Gradius series games, Thunderforce series, Mars Matrix, Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, Espgulada, Mushihimesama series, Deathsmiles, Akai Katana, etc. There are lots of videos on youtube showcasing some of
    these superb games.

My question was, if anyone knows if any of these types of games have been announced for XBox One. The XBox 360 had tons of titles, and I'm just wondering if that will continue with this new generation of consoles.

    @GG

Shmups are shmups and have been around since the beginning of gaming. Common terms for the genre are "bullet h*ll" ,scrolling shooters, etc. Most are in an aircraft or spacecraft but today even twin stick shooters are getting lumped in the genre.

Jamestown is an example that most US gamers would be familiar with that's recent.

    Xbox One Shmups??

Shoot em ups are games were the main function is shooting stuff, although the term was coined when they were generally side scrolling.

Some would say if you wanted next gen, beautify graphics, 3D, good sound tracks, and you like games like Skyrim (not a shmup) then Destiny is the next gen shoot em up.

Not sure why your against it though.

@Enen: I don't define genres, but it is generally understood that FPS games are Call of Duty type titles. Skyrim is a role-playing game, different. Shmups are usually understood to be vertical or horizontal scrolling games, like the Raiden series. Different
    concepts.
