Xbox One Shmups??

EnenDaveyBoy: I fully understand the financial aspect. However, I note that many, many shmups are simply a labor of love for the genre. Take Ikaruga, for example. That game is a masterpiece. It was re-released on XBox Live, done right. I'm sure they
made some coin by re-releasing it there.

I'm just curious if there are any new games in the pipeline. That's all.

EnenDaveyBoy: Reaching out to publishers? I shouldn't have to. That's Microsoft's job. To convince developers to publish games that people want to play on their platform.

4 of the last 5 games played on the 360 for you are CoD's yet your going to tell us that recycling old games isn't profitable. There is no "new" in the FPS shooter genre yet many in the Xbox community don't seem to mind playing a tired old genre over and
over.

 

EnenDaveyBoy: Chill out, man. You're totally off the mark here. I simply asked if anyone has heard any news about new shmups on XBox One. That's it.

 

every year COD releases a new COD, the people on the old cods drop off a cliff, says to me that old games don't have the market, if they did COD 4 would still be selling well in shops and its not. Thats the same for every genre not just shooters.

I know there is a market for shoot em ups, but my point is its not old ones, if it was people would already be doing it.

People already are doing it, they just aren't coming to the One which is why the OP asked the question if anything was coming in the future.

Enemy Mind was rumored to be coming to the console in some forums but developers haven't announced anything. I think most US developers will stick to the PC and the Japanese developers will be going to the other guy.

 

If there was money in it, people would be doing it, and they simply aren't, since this is an xbox forum I though we were talkng xbox.

I guess its also down to developers expectations and only they will be able to tell you if there an economy for it.

 

@ Enen: Very true about the COD games. IMO, those are entertaining, but only for a while. Shmups, on the other hand, have much higher replay value. They're also easier to pick up and play for 30 minutes and just turn off when you've gotta run.

@ Randver: I just hope it doesn't lean that way this time around. The 360 is an awesome shooter console. By contrast, there are almost no shooters for PS3. I have one, and only have 3 shmups for it. There are 40-50 on the 360. Total domination in that
regard.

 

If COD 4 were released I would buy it, same as WAW, the others I can live without, the point is its replayable for you, thats isn't always the same for everyone else.

 

I would happily see some Cave titles but I haven't heard of any as yet. A bit of bullet hell wouldn't go amiss for me.

I have had candy cabs and Cave titles in the past for ridiculous amounts of money, I still miss them and they don't feel the same on consoles but I would still buy them if they came.

 

@Enen: There is money in it for devs. Tons of shmup fans out there. Go to youtube, see for yourself. It's a different fanbase, but still there nonetheless. Just like some people love FPS games, shmupers love shooters.

That's why I own both consoles. Xbox will give me the good shooter exclusives ( at least last gen they did) and the PS everything else.

The next month is a perfect example....Xbox gets Sunset Overdrive (open world parkour that's been done to death) and Halo. The other guy gets a critically acclaimed rogue-like (Binding of Isaac) and LBP3 which will satisfy fans of multiple genres. For me
there wasn't any hesitation in where my money would be going.
