Xbox One Setup with Surround Sound

Right now I am trying to figure out how to connect my new Xbox One to my entertainment Setup. I have a Tivo, Sony STR-KS370 5.1 Surround Sound receiver, LG tv, and a Chromecast. I had my 360, Tivo, and Chromecast all hooked up to my surround sound via HDMI
which then was connected to my tv. I tried plugging the Xbox One into the same spot as my 360, with my Tivo running into the HDMI in port on my Xbox being the only difference. I couldn't get audio or video. I then tried an optical audio cable instead of HDMI
between the Xbox and surround sound and connecting it straight to the tv, which did work. However, my chromecast is still plugged into the surround sound (because it is the only way I can get surround sound through it) and when I tried the Chromecast I got
video but no audio. Is there a way for this setup to work or does the Xbox One need optical audio to connect or is there another way I can get all three to work on my tv?

XBOX DLNA only plays in Stereo???

Has anyone been able to play DLNA content in surround sound?

My setup is Xbox One going into Onkyo Amp, which goes into my Samsung TV.

Streaming DLNA content directly to my Samsung TV i am able to play with surround sound

Also surround sound works fine with Xbox content such as games and movies from their marketplace.

Sound setting is 7.1 uncrompressed

Any ideas?

 

Surround Sound Complications

Hello Community,

I would like to consider myself a Techie but when I setup my Xbox One I got for a present I only ran into frustration and issues.

Equipment & Setup:

Xbox One plugged into a Sony Receiver via HDMI. Receiver plugged into TV via HDMI cable.

Xbox One set to 5.1 uncompressed (as suggested via researching this online). Receiver states 3/2.1 PCM - I set it to PLII Movie, thus 5.1 Surround Sound.

Issue:

Hulu app will not play 5.1 surround sound, only FL & FR speakers.

Previews on a Blu-Ray wouldn't play 5.1 surround sound but the actual movie would.

Pandora will only play through FL & FR speakers, no sub.

Netflix will play 5.1 surround sound. Games will play 5.1 surround sound.

Confusion:

Why are some items playing surround sound and others are not? My previous console had no issues playing Hulu at 5.1 surround sound with same HDMI setup. My other devices I'm using on the receiver are playing 5.1 surround sound just fine.

Seeking help with this. I would hate to return the Xbox One due to something as trivial as Audio. Especially since a device as simple as my Chromcast and PS3 had no issues whatsoever. But if I can't solve this within the week I will have to return for a
PS4.

hi, not sure if i can help, but ill try,

if you have chromecast connected and working leave it so,

connect tivo to xbox one via hdmi and use the one guide to set up and use an optic cable from xbox to surround system, go in to settings and audio settings, and set output to optic cable. you shouldnt need to connect the audio from the surround to tv (thats
the part thats confusing me)

 

Thanks for the advice, right now I have it set up like you say, using optical audio from the xbox to the surround sound. However I had to set it to use optical audio on the surround sound receiver so it will not transfer sound from the Chromecast since it
uses HDMI. Not sure if there is an answer to this problem. :-(

 

Does the TV have an optic out and if so use cable from there to av device

 

The TV does have an optic out. Strangely enough the issue ended up fixing itself through what I am assuming was one of the updates. Now I can plug the Chromecast into the Xbox One and it transfers the HDMI audio through to the optical cable connected to
my receiver. Thanks to the Xbox team I suppose!
