Xbox one seems to think a network cable is connected when one isn't.

So today I went to connect to live and find that the connection type is wired, dispite me never using a network cable and no cable being in the console. When I try to switch to wireless a message pops up saying "Please remove the network cable before going
wireless, this has happened once before but soon fixed itself however this time its here to stay.

Any help or advice would be great.

XBOX ONE says I have a ethernet cord pluged in when these NEVER been one connected!

So, for two days now my XBOX ONE S has not been able to connect to the internet. It apparently thinks there's a network cable connected to it even though there isn't one, nor even been connected to one. Today I tried resetting it hoping that would help resolve
the issue but now it seems to be worse. Now during the setup process for the network it doesn't see ANY networks at all and now says the network adapter isn't working and send it in for repair. Now I have a very nice looking $400+ paper weight!

I think there's a chance that the thunderstorm screwed of your network connecton on the console.

Since it is specifying that a ehternet cable is connected when there isn't one.

I would suggest requesting a repair.

Well really Ive tried the hard reset and checking connection which freezes the console, thats pretty much all I've tried.

 

Could you try unplugg the power cord from your console and let it sit in that state for a couple of minutes.

Could you also try plug in an Ethernet cable, so it can sense that there is actually a cable attached.

Give these two steps a try and let us know how it goes, and we'll work from there.

 

If you don't have enough cable to terminate into your router, then run a wired connection between your computer and your console.

 

After doing both of the suggested still nothing. The consile connects when actually wired to the router but still falsely thinks it is connect when not.

 

Could you go into your console's network settings. Select Advanced settings and Alternate MAC address and Clear.

Head back to the overview of your console's network settings and select go offline. Select forget this wireless network.

Press and hold the power button on the front of your console for 10 seconds. Once your console is shut down, power it on.

Let me know how that goes.

 

Can't seem to clear the mac address as it then has you to select restart for the changes to take effect however when you select it nothing happens. Similar issue with selecting to go offline the select sound is heard but nothing happens.

 

I've been having the exact same issue too, but after doing a hard reset, I can't even connect it using the wired connection either, even though I could before.

 

Try reset your console to factory defaults, before you request a repair.

I tried resetting the console and now I can't even get past the internet connection page. Even plugging in the ethernet cable it won't connect either.

 

Same here, the console almost seems bricked in relation to online use, the cause however an elusive one.......

 

From that support article, you also have the option to restore your console with the help of an USB stick. Try that option and when finished, update your console's system through the Offline System Update. Here's how:
